To grind, what if you didn’t get your Ego/Secondary refilled between forums after 4 visits or something. should make it expensive to keep going endlessly, your equipment will break, you’ll run out of items if you do it too much, that sort of thing.
probably needs a lot of tweaking but it was a thought.

I’ve noticed the computers all have lines that say “X slots for software,” is that going to come into play anytime soon?

Could we get random daily mini-missions?
Like, create a pool of 10-20 different quick missions that come in once each day by random and are repeatable if they pop up again to break the monotomy of what happens when you beat Chapter 1.
For example, each day you’d get a tubmail that would say “I lost all my money to Gamblebot! If you can prove it isn’t cheating by beating [Blackjack/RPS] [3-5-9] times in a row, I’ll reward you!” or “I need you to Pwn this person over at [Forum] who has been trolling me, if you beat him I’ll reward you!”, with the person having much, much more Ego than your typical thread.
There’s not really much to do but Pwn the Nuke reactor forum every day, which gets boring after blowing it up for the thirtieth time. Log in to see images! |

Yeah, the idea is to eventually have a pretty complex hardware setup, as well as slots for software and peripherals. I was also thinking a “Now Playing” slot for music that will affect your mood and therefore abilities.

just came up with this gem. spam mail. why don’t we get any? i know that a lot of users deleted their pbumword tubmail because they like to keep it clean. why not make that harder for them? heck, you could even allow user set up filters. |

Is there any chance you can share the equations used to calculate stats in battles? For example how is damage dealt, damage taken and dodge calculated? I know you might be rather wary of divulging the information but i’d think it would benefit everyone in the long run. Players would be less likely to gimp themselves if they knew exactly what they were getting out of their upgrades and balance would be much more easily achieved if there were a bunch of people trying to find out what stats and abilities put you way above average.
I’ve been recording my damage dealt today and from what i can tell damage is calculated by some value based on offense added to the attack value of the ability. I can’t be sure that other factors affect it though. Now i’m only level 5 but this seems a bit odd to me. Since my abilities don’t improve over time, but rather my overall damage does and my abilities just add a bit extra on top, it would seem that as long as (damage of new attack-damage of current lowest damage attack in chain)/upgrade cost is less than increase in damage from upgrading offense/upgrade cost then i would do better to take the more ‘boring’ option of just upgrading stats. Also as i level the difference between my attacks would become relatively smaller and this could affect the downsides to balance them. For example, when i first got Spoil it did a lot more damage than Ascii but at the cost of an extra turn. Now that i’ve increased my Offense a bit the majority of my damage is coming from my Offense, not the attacks. That difference of 3 damage isn’t that big a deal now that i’m throwing out about 30 damage per attack. Did you account for this when designing the abilities? As a way to counter this effect did you intend for us to use our upgraded abilities and just ignore the old ones? If the relative difference between Annoying Text and whatever Spoiler level 2 is is about the same as the relative difference between the level 1 attacks then i can sort of see what you were thinking, but still it seems a bit of a waste to just discard old attacks seeing how creative they all are.

Wow, you really did look into it!
I would share the math involved but I’ve changed a lot of it around for the next release and it’s not tied down yet.
Basically it used to be pwnage = attack + ((offense * offense) / 5). So if the attack was 3-5 it would be a random number in that range plus an added offensive boost.
Doing it additively had some problems as it meant that low level attacks like re-re ones would do t0+ damage when your offense was high.
The new forumla I’m testing on our dev environment is multiplicative, and I think makes a lot more sense. Re-re attacks get stronger, but will never do 50 damage. Higher level attacks go up proportionally.
I’m pretty happy with it so far but it needs a little more work and testing so it’ll take a few more days. When it’s released people will have the capability to reset all their upgrades for free (see the re-balancing thread.)
To answer your other question, it was always the plan to replace old attacks with newer ones. Having said that, it does make sense to keep around an old attack or two in case your secondary attribute goes low (or runs out altogether,) but the intended use is to have people stick to their latest and more powerful attacks for the most part.

You know games usually don’t, but off the top of my head I can’t think of a good reason not to. It’s hard for me to believe that someone would be like “YES, the secret forumla, I will now start up my own competitor to Forumwarz.”
I’ll ask at our next Crotch Zombie meeting and see what the other guys say.

A big reason nobody posts their formula is because it encourages everybody’s build to be exactly the same. It’s not as if that doesn’t usually happen anyways, but with or without the formulae I can see myself spending the dough to redo my character two or three times to see what effect high amounts of certain stats do for me. |

Have you thought about selling skill resets for like 4 brownie points? If you’re ever planning on implementing a wide enough variety of skills that there can be large differences between the same clbumes based on build, this would be key. Just chiming in to say I’d like to be able to use an ability out of the inventory screen without having to move it to the toolbar if possible. It’s not a big deal, but there’ve been a few times I’ve wanted to shoot off a low-costing attack I usually don’t have out and had to shift **** around.
Also, I think there should be an e-peen for having your name on 4 forums at once as most recently pwned. Cause I just did that. And think I deserve something. Even if it’s like “****y User Award” |
