Oh, I’m sure there are other ways to make it popular, but keeping the rewards limited hamstrings the abuse potential.
P-doggie Posted:
My suggestion isn’t going to result in a power creep problem, and FW is as multiplayer as MGS2; people work hard on things in the single-player game, then compare codes to see who wins. It’s effect on FW’s multiplayer aspects will be mathematically insignificant, with the exception of people’s remorts removing them from competition.
P-doggie Posted:
One of the nice things about FW is that if you get something you’ll ever be able to use, you can already use it.
Also, I see a huge draw for trolls: It would let them take a round as camwhore to get some improved glbumes. A few more crossover EQs like that and people would actually seriously consider a remort or two without it unbalancing things. (view post) |

That’s one of the reasons why people who like the endgame aren’t going to be all that interested in this, and why bonus-grinding isn’t that big of a deal.
Vuron Posted:
Why? Perhaps there should be ePeens for the first remort, as well as for clearing episode 1 with every clbum, and episode 2 with every clbum, as well as ePeens for clearing an episode with all clbumes, but I see no reason why players should be rewarded just for grinding in and of itself.
That would work out to be 1 for first remort, 6+1 for episode 1, and 6+1 for episode 2 for a total of 15 ePeen, requiring at least 6 remorts to attain. The value of these epeen would be reasonably low, since almost one in four people would have one of the episode/clbum clear badges simply as a result of playing through the game once. The only ones that would have any sort of value would be the permanoob, re-re, all-clbum-clear, and first remort badges. Since people would EARN the permanoob and re-re badges either way, that brings it down the the remort-specific ones: The first remort and the all-clbum-clear ePeens.
Of course, that’s just if you wanted to add ePeens for it.
Vuron Posted:
That would be their choice, and that would also mean that they were glad to be given the choice to do so.
Vuron Posted:
I suppose that CZ could allow people to store .moar files away until you hit some predetermined level and regain access to them. That seems to be a reasonable option. (view post) |

If you wish to argue against a suggestion, at least read the thread first. It’s two pages, and you’ve failed to even do THAT much.
Vuron Posted:
...which wouldn’t actually do them much good, since they can’t participate in endgame play while they’re rebuilding and replaying. Is it worth it for you to spend a month or more unable to participate in domination so that you can get a +1 bonus to one stat?
Vuron Posted:
Yes, for people who actually LIKE the endgame options. While this may seem strange to you, some people just don’t find things like domination interesting.
Vuron Posted:
This isn’t useful for people who want to play domination, since anybody going back through the story is going to be basically excluded from domination until they get their level and eq back.
Again: Alts are useful for domination, this is useful for single-player and abnormal play. (view post) |

Episode 3 isn’t going to be a surprise. Everybody will know when it’s coming, just like this time. Even if it WAS a surprise, then I’d just say “Sucks to be them”. It’s not like it takes THAT long to hit 35, after all.
Possibly a Cabbage Posted:
I *did* mention a bp cost for clbum switches, and I gave a few very good reasons why it *should* be cheaper than alts. As far as grinding and becoming badbumes, I don’t think there’s much cause for concern. People were able to turn themselves into incomparable badbumes in Ep 1, as shown by “The June Twenty-Second Incident” ePeen. Those people were fully capable of blazing through Episode 2 with ease. Heck, I wasn’t even CLOSE to the level cap when Episode 2 hit, and it didn’t cause me any trouble.
If somebody wants to spend months grinding reincarnations for a bunch of +1 bonuses, more power to ‘em. (view post) |

Optional stat boosts. Naturally, you wouldn’t have to put them into anything. In fact, it would probably be best if specialty ePeen required that you not be using any stats boosts.
Also, I’d say that it’s even worse to have the replay value be not being allowed to play the game again. Sure, you COULD spend $5 to get an alt and play again like that, but paying money to replay a game you’ve paid for is less “replay” and more like “rebuy and play the new copy”. “Mbum effect: $30 for the first play through, $15 for every subsequent play through.”
Also, for people talking about domination: Endgame content is not replay value.
And what’s this fabulous personry about ‘copying KoL’? The ascension-and-replay mechanic was already ancient when KoL came out. MUDs used it over a decade before KoL started, and so did Legend of the Red Dragon (Which is convenient, since I know it had such a system back when it was created in 1989.) (view post) |

Artificially extending play timeYea. 5 clbumes means 4 alts at 3bp each. That’s 12bp. If you want to keep a re-re around that makes it 15bp, which costs a minimum of $20.
Paying 3 or 4bp to get all the clbumes would seem reasonable with the restrictions put on this idea – you can only play one at a time, you need to hit level 35 before you can switch, and you can’t carry any items or flezz over from one cycle to the next. Compare that to alts, where you get 4 visits for each alt, they each have separate flezz and inventory spaces, they keep everything they buy, you can switch between them freely, etc…
Edit: It’s +1 every time you reincarnate. Keeping it small keeps it from unbalancing the game; one stat point helps out a LOT in early levels, but once you hit the endgame it’s not really worth anything. That makes it fairly useless for getting an advantage in Domination unless you do a LOT of playing over a LONG time, and in that case it’s just rewarding players for sticking with the game. "Lottery Winner" is now basically worthless, and quickly dropping in value. It costs 2bp for 100,000. Buying the best lingerie for camwhores would require a 20bp investment. The best glbumes would be another 12bp. That works out to be about $35 for two pieces of equipment, which is a pretty poor investment. Sure, you could use it to buy the best Ep1 gear and get an early start, but you could get “Shoot Your Wad” for the same price and get plenty of both cash AND story progress.
Now, lets think about the coming .moar file trading system. If you’re allowed to buy and sell .moar files with flezz, then it would be the opposite of hard to find a person willing to part with a million or two. If you sweeten the deal with 1bp, then you’ll be flooded with offers. Better yet, your account won’t be marked as a cheater since you didn’t use the enhancement system.
I propose that the “Lottery Winner” enhancement be removed now, and that players who used it (only it) should have their ‘cheater’ flags reset as soon as the trade system comes out. (view post) |

Artificially extending play timeFAIL Posted:
So restrict .moar file trades to other .moar files. However, that doesn’t really solve the problem anyway, does it? I mean, if I wanted to give a friend a leg up I would just tell them to put any old .moar file up for 2,000,000 and I’d buy it off of them. Heck, since we don’t really have anything worthwhile to do with flezz once we max out our equipment, what’s there to keep us from just giving cash out to raw newbs just so that SOMEBODY can get some use out of it?
Personally, I think that the 100,000 enhancement should just be removed once some kind of trade system comes out, and those people who used it (And only it) should have the cheater flag removed. It’s pretty obvious that the flezz economy will be utter chaos, and people will start back-alley trades of flezz and/or rare .moars for BP. CZ should do the smart thing and let that happen; people who trade flezz for BP aren’t the type to buy BP in the first place, and it doesn’t really matter who gets the BP as long as it’s been paid for.
TL;DR: Problems that come with a trade system and problems that come with a reincarnation system are different sets of problems.
... Actually, I should probably start a thread about “Lottery Winner”... (view post) |

Elemental Affinities?Lord Shplane Posted:
No, it would just make it take longer to do so. I beat Second Wife today, in spite of my attacks being less than 10% as effective as they normally are. Yes, I used the new and expensive consumables, but only because I have nothing to spend my flezz on. I could have done quite well with cheaper ones, but it would have taken more turns and more patience. (view post) |
11/08/2008 | |
Artificially extending play timeExcept that KoL gave insanely high stat boosts for each ascension. To put FW on par with that, the reincarnation bonus would need to be about +20 offense, +15 defense, and +17 Charisma. Although a bunch of +1 bonuses would add up over time, it would take many, many months before it would start to actually give them any sort of tangible advantage.
Besides, what better flezz sink than something that gets rid of it all? (view post) |
11/08/2008 | |
Artificially extending play timeI propose that people who have reached the level cap should be granted a sTalk contact that resets the story, takes away their flezz and items (Probably), changes their clbum to re-re, and resets them to level 1. Reincarnating like this costs no BP. These players may get a flezz or forum visit bonus to help them start off. To encourage players to do this, they reincarnation stat bonus pool. Every time you hit the cap and reset you get +1 stat point added to the pool, and these stat points can be distributed however you like prior to hitting level 2. (Perhaps they could trade in 5 or so stat points for +1 forum visit?)
However, while the players are allowed to stay as a re-re if they want, they are only allowed to play clbumes that they chose to play as in prior cycles – if you played as a camwhore, you could only move from re-re to camwhore.
This brings me to the next part of my suggestion – a new game enhancement. Specifically, after reincarnating players would be able to spend 1 or 2 BP to let them pick a new clbum. For example, the camwhore above reincarnated into a re-re, and now can only choose between staying a re-re or going back to camwhoring. However, if this player bought a clbum repick, they could then choose to play as any clbum they wish. bumuming the player picked hacker, then when they next reincarnate they would be allowed to pick between re-re, hacker, and camwhore. TL;DR: You can play as any clbum you used to play through a cycle, and you can buy new clbumes for less than an alt.
Also: Players keep access to stores once they’ve unlocked them.

Final Forum <spoiler?>I doubt CZ would bump it’s health up any higher, since they certainly don’t want to discourage the users from acting like total male reproductive organs and doing nonsensical things. You know, like deciding to remain a Re-re permanently for ****s and giggles, saving up 10,000,000 so that they can avoid getting the overprotect loan (Bad CZ! That’s one story branch that SHOULD have been implemented!), or killing bosses that can’t be killed just to show that they can do it.
After all, that’s where the best ePeens come from. (view post) |
