Relative N00B Has a Question: Part IOf course I could pwn it, but I see it more as a way that I can waste an hour or two than anything else. Also, I’m not far enough along in episode 2 to hit that – I just got Net Tranny after trying to decide if I wanted to see the secret ‘You already have 10,000,000’ message or not.
Suggestion: New ePeen and records for per-clbum lowest level forum pwnage. (view post) |

Relative N00B Has a Question: Part IIf it weren’t for getting kicked out after pwning the second thread, I could have taken it at level 19. As it is, I’ve been grinding Teen Moms for cred and haven’t needed any healing items for it. I’d be doing Second Wife runs if it weren’t for the fact that it would take ages with the -90% damage penalty.
... Actually, I think I’ll do that tomorrow for lulz. (view post) |

Let's Tune up Episode 2! <Spoilers Galore!>If you’re afraid that somebody’s going to copypasta wins, then why not have a flag array that says which parts of the game they completed and only handing out the reward to people who have completed all sections? Or using the account/alt ID to hash the base address to get player/alt-specific URLs that are worthless for copypasta?
This is hardly an unsolvable problem, the only question is how abuse-proof a solution do you want (The Trapped in a Cupboard guide on the wiki?) and how much time do you want to spend on it. (view post) |

Let's Tune up Episode 2! <Spoilers Galore!>The easiest way I can think of to handle subscriptions is to make their 100% repair cost equal to their purchase cost, and have them take 10% damage very update. That would make the first ‘issue’ cost X, and each subsequent ‘issue’ would be 10% as much. A better method would be to deduct the cost directly from people’s accounts at the update, but I expect that would require more new coding.
As for the benefits, I think that we should think outside the stat box and consider special effects. Constant ego/secondary regeneration, receiving ego for damaging threads, starting thread in-fighting, etc… Naturally, none of these should affect scoops or cards, since that would royally screw up domination. That’s probably because their attack upgrade point costs dropped by about 95%. You had several dozen extra points to spend as a result. (view post) |

Site lag = ridiculousYou’re entirely right, ET. Usually there’s very little lag going on, but I’m sure you’ve noticed that usage is quite cyclic; the server is perfectly fine most of the day, then the peak hours start, the server gets overloaded, and the response time rockets from, say, 20msec to several seconds and quite a few drops. Normal high usage points are update times, lunch, and when people get home from school or work. While I hate to resolve issues by throwing hardware at them, there’s a limit to how much you can do with what you have and FW is growing fairly rapidly.
You’ve already said that you store the battle databases in memory, and that battles aren’t CPU intensive. That fits well with my hypothesis that it’s related to the number of server connections and TCP/IP packet handling. If you have time, you could try to find or code a new TCP/IP stack designed specifically to sacrifice throughput for number of connections and rapid turnaround time, and attach that to a network interface that’s separate from the other server functions. Since consumer grade TCP/IP handling (Both NICs and stacks, for related reasons) tends to die once you hit around 60 concurrent connections, this might be worth considering. (view post) |

Let's Tune up Episode 2! <Spoilers Galore!>Well, my major point was that most of the books suck, and the one you get for free is actually very good. It would have been much more logical to give people a ****ty book and have much better books available in the store.
Heck, I can even think of clbum themes; O’Reilly books for hackers, poetry for emokids, “For dummies” books for permanoobs, Dr Seuss books for Re-res, romance novels for Camwhores, and various ‘reference image’ books for trolls.
Also, here’s a sink: Magazine subscriptions. 4200, Death (Bleeder’s Digest?), Buxom, CP Lamer, Lowlights for retards, and something for permanoobs that I can’t think of at the moment. (view post) |

While that may be true, Incit probably suffers mostly because people are pwning threads on the same server. Also, most Incit timers are quite a bit longer than any of the job timers, and you don’t earn vanilla scoops based on how fast you are at Incit.
I did take Incit into account when making my suggestion, and I honestly do think that my suggestion provides the best return on investment. (view post) |

Signed. However, it should be that you are locked into your clbum. You start as a Re-re, and although you can play as that clbum for as long as you want, you can only choose that alt’s previous clbum. HOWEVER, if you want to pay 1-2 BP then you are allowed to re-pick your clbum on the next ‘reincarnation’ and from then on you can pick any clbum that has been so ‘unlocked’.
Does that sound reasonable?
On an unrelated note, is there even a point to the Tall Jungle **** store? Why bother buying a book when you get the best one for free an insignificant period of time later?
On Haxl resets: Have resets cost a level-dependent or percentage amount of your total , but have that cost drop down to nothing over th course of 4 days. People with the to spare WOULD spend it on respecs, but people who are strapped for cash would sit it out like always. Nobody suffers, nobody gains any real advantage, is spent, and we can finally update the upgrade Wiki page properly. (view post) |

Site lag = ridiculousSadly, I have a degree in this kind of ****.
Srsly: Second server, RAMDisk, prepping for future load-balancing needs. If FW was closer, I might have been able to donate some hardware to help.
Also, does anybody else wish that Linux provided an alternate netcode system for low-throughput latency-sensitive tasks? I find it more than a little disheartening that not only does this simple capability not currently exist in software, but worse still that a $130 ‘gimmick’ card like the Killer NIC actually provides noticeably improved performance simply by doing so! Site lag = ridiculousI get ‘Refreshing the page will not cost you a forum visit’ messages just about every time I go and pwn a forum. It doesn’t matter what computer I use, what network I’m on, or what ISP I’m connected through.
I’d say that’s pretty bad. (view post) |

Site lag = ridiculousIf I knew what they were running and how it was set up I might be able to help them get a bit more oomph out of what they have. Barring that, I could help them make careful decisions about what they should buy to get the most bang for their buck.
Out of everything, the only part of forumwarz that actually suffers when lag steps in is pwning threads. bumuming that they’re running a single-server solution, I would suggest sticking the pwnage system on it’s own server and storing all forum data on a RAMDisk. (view post) |

epeen now displayed in inchesI don’t care if it’s displayed in length or number, honestly, but I do wish that there was an easy way of seeing which ePeen you have. (Possibly even including the length that each ePeen bestows.)
Also, my length was 7.25 yesterday, then it hit 7.49 at the update from ePeen I collected, and now it’s suddenly down to 7.07. I have no idea what’s going on here, but I bumume that the mysterious male reproductive organ shrinking disease has been hitting everybody. (view post) |

Pbum the BP 12!Naw, it’s only rarely ‘burned in’; usually they stick it into some EPROM or flash memory. If you know how you can easily change the MAC address of most network devices. (view post) |

Pbum the BP 12!Stealing cable internet isn’t like stealing cable. Charter maintains a list of active and inactive MAC addresses which it manages centrally.
If you took a live MAC address, it would conflict with the real device and cause a whole bunch of very noticeable errors that basically tells the admins “HEY! ONE OF THESE TWO MODEMS IS TRYING TO STEAL INTERNET!” along side your name, address, phone number, and etc. This would probably result in getting V& or billed, since Charter is a bag of male reproductive organs like that.
If you took a dead address, the system would just reject it outright thus making it useless to you.
Now that I’ve explained just why this contest is impossible to fulfill as you intended, I’d like to claim that BP so I can get the next pbuming thread going. (view post) |

Presidential Election 2008Anzara Posted:
I’d prefer the Wily party. Or the Cossack party
Anzara Posted: AKA: Snake Oil. Anzara Posted: All of the candidates support SOME KIND of national health insurance program. The **** piles are in the details. Anzara Posted: A crime against humanity. So-called “organic” farming techniques result in FAR lower yields on both a per acre AND per unit of invested energy basis, deplete farmlands, and exacerbate deforestation issues. Ever wonder why South America’s rain-forests are being cut down? The answer is FARMING. Organic food isn’t any healthier, so why should we waste 10x the land and 3x the energy to grow it? Anzara Posted: Solar is only viable if you have a strong baseload generation capability, like nuclear, coal, natural gas, or hydro. Since hydro is woefully underpowered for the task and the other two options are big on CO2, that leaves nuclear plants as the primary baseload generators. While I have no problems with this, I think that they might get a LITTLE upset that their energy policy requires the POWER OF THE ATOM to work. Anzara Posted: Yes, because the best solution to a mexican stand-off is ALWAYS to fling your guns into the lake and go skipping off into a field of dandelions. Also, I noticed that they dropped the last comma from a comma delineated list. They should be ashamed of themselves. Anzara Posted:
Yes, because regressive taxes and trickle-down economics have worked out SO WELL when put into action… bumuming that your goal is to stab the economy in the balls and **** in the wound.
Anzara Posted: Oh, hey, like the Scios or Mormons! Wait, no, the second ones just went around posthumously signing people up. Anzara Posted: Not even name recognition. I don’t even think it’s worth my time checking to see if they have a page on Wikipedia. Anzara Posted: One day I hope to see the marijuana party get one of their people in the white house. **** ‘issue pushing’, that would just be ****ing awesome. Anzara Posted: Meh, I’ve bought worse music from more ****-brine-brained people than that, so at least they seem to be producing SOMETHING of value. (view post) |
