A better way to fix ItembuildrI’m not entirely sure if downvoting should be removed entirely, but I think “what it does” should be changed fundamentally. The value of downvoting is so that people don’t have to wade through enormous piles of submissions in order to find the good ones. But it does this whether it removes the offending entries from competition entirely, or just shoves them to the bottom of the list.
So what I would like to see is: However many submissions fit on a page (I think it’s 15), even before voting, the first 15 you see when you go to vote are the 15 of the unvoted which currently have the highest score, in random order. The next 15 you see are the 16-30 of the unvoted, and so on. No submissions ever go away, no matter how bad their scores are. So that way, if someone really wants to dive in whole hog, more power to them. But if someone just wants to play their part in figuring out what the very best of the best ideas are, they only have to go through one page or maybe two of submissions, after a few people have bothered to vote. Suggestion for Itembuildr FairnessSergeant Cid Posted:
Would it? Suppose you have a submission that would get 35 upvotes and 30 downvotes. If it was just “upvote/pbum” you would end up with 7 scoops. However, if you get to 5 scoops, get downvoted, get upvoted, get downvoted, get upvoted, etc. you would end up with 31 scoops. At the same time, if you go up/down/up/down etc. ending with 5 straight up votes, you’d end up with 1 scoop. It seems like “you get 7” is better than “you get somewhere between 1 and 31” in this situation.
It seems “you get scoops = floor[votes/5], no matter what order you get them in” would be a good system. (view post) |

Two Very Simple Improvements I'd Like To See In Kyoubai.Possibly a Cabbage Posted:
Can we at least do this one? I just lost five auctions in a row for not meeting reserve when the difference between my maximum bid and the winning bid was several hundred thousand flezz. I lost an auction where the opening bid was 338 , I bid 500,000 , there was a reserve in excess of 338 , and nobody else bid so it was impossible for me to win the auction with the way the game currently works. No itembuildr images.I think the correct solution in this case is to not publish the item.
I mean, is anybody going to miss not getting another itembuildr piercing? If people strongly dislike all of the ideas, why bother making the item at all? (view post) |

What counts as spam? I want concrete restrictions if this is bannabale.Would it be possible to split IDC in half, having a “Spam away, spam boy!” section and a “Actual conversations here” section, sort of like RP vs. non-RP forums on Flamebate? (view post) |

Two Very Simple Improvements I'd Like To See In Kyoubai.1) If “winning bid” < “reserve price” < “winning bidder’s maximum bid”, award the item to the winning bidder for the reserve price.
2) Allow the current high bidder on an auction to rebid on the auction, increasing that bidder’s maximum bid if the new bid is in excess of that bid, otherwise returning an error.
Neither idea would seem to amount to anything more than very simple conditionals in the Kyoubai code, and both are appealing for some obvious reasons. (view post) |

Well, to be fair, I can’t think of any reason a camwhore would want to equip this item…

We need new fetishes!Miss Prince Posted:
I was thinking more that CZ would take more of an active interest in forumbuildr and occasionally say something like “this week we’re going to do a forum lampooning some political cause” or “we’re going to do a forum about cooking” or something similar. Both to provide some structure for people’s creativity to latch onto as well as an opportunity to help mbumage the distribution of various themes for forums to a more realistic levels (we currently have too many sex and sexuality forums as proportion of the total, for example.) Would it be a problem if they wanted to do ”.moar fornight” for itembuildr where a bunch of .moar files are created, and the CZ team takes a half hour at one of their meetings to figure out how many pieces and where they go? I think special events like that would be fun.
I also want theme weeks for forumbuildr. (view post) |

Or those horrible, headache inducing video watching glbumes (intended for your iPod) that they have. Or, like a fully functional Geordi LaForge cosplay kit!
If you roll up a set of glbumes with PP, people will come up with a justification for it. Anyway, having something odd to explain, helps the creative process. It’s good to have a little structure so you’re not just coming up with “so, what are we going to pierce next.”
Though… I do have to say that I don’t exactly grok how Gaydar makes you sexy… (view post) |

Just because it’s weird having a .moar file that you buy at a shop as opposed to extract?
I think it could be cool to have itembuildr create more .moar files, but instead of selling them in the co-op, just have them seeded in a few forums.
We’ve got to get new .moar files someday because collecting them is fun(I only have 86 left to get), and this is as good as place as any to create them… but selling them in stores is weird. (view post) |

We need new fetishes!NOS MAN Posted:
There are nerd glbumes, but they give sexiness and not processing power… for some reason. There aren’t any glbumes that give PP to this point (though there are several that give Douchebaggery).
Including what’s in the hopper, we’ve had 1 .moar (everybody), 1 special item (everybody), 1 pair of glbumes (non-emos), 3 piercings (emos), 1 tattoo (emos), and 2 pairs of lingerie (camgirls).
This is unfortunate, but entirely plausible with random numbers. ET might want to consider mbumaging the way itembuildr chooses items, so that we don’t have considerable stretches where 44% of items are specifically for one clbum. Something like “50% chance of reroll if itembuildr chooses an item type that has already been chosen in the last 5 rounds” would be reasonable, but even with that you could get stuff like we’re getting.
I’m hoping tomorrow we get a fetish or piece of hardware though. Given the submissions for the piercing one, the well of good ideas for piercings seems to have run dry. (view post) |

We need new fetishes! What kind of item that gets built is randomly generated. This sort of thing is going to happen, it’s not due to any malfeasance on the part of ET or anybody else.
There are (I believe) eight types of items itembuildr can create: .moar files, special items, hardware, fetishes, glbumes, lingerie, piercings, tattoos.
Of the eight types of items 2 are entirely general, 1 is troll specific, 1 is hacker specific, 2 are emo specific, 1 is camwhore specific, and 1 is mostly camwhore-centric (glbumes.)
So, bumuming a 1/8 probability of each kind of item, you’d expect to get more emo and camwhore stuff than anything else. But just give it time, there’ll be troll and hacker stuff soon enough.
Personally, I’m just hoping that the itembuildr code for glbumes allows the possibility of creating glbumes with douchebaggery (there are already several examples) as well as processing power (nothing currently, but it would make sense). (view post) |

Why so much focus on Camwhores/Emo Kids?I do think that some sort of queue should be put into place to bias against item types that have been recently created (For example: if the RNG selects itembuildr to create an type of item that was in one of the last 4 itembuildr rounds, it flips a coin and on heads it will reroll the item type, there are no further rerolls.)
I think this would be a good idea, not out of “whining that I haven’t gotten enough things for my clbum” but for the simple reason that “people are going to run out of funny ideas for piercings if you make three different ones in a week”, a fact that is fairly evident when you look at this round of submissions.
