Bamp figures if he’s gonna announce his arrival, it’d be best to do it with a bang. He shoots the barrels, silently cursing when he hears no cries of pain. Stepping forward, he’s greeted by a few glancing shots from a chaingun, and a fireball to the chest. Furious, he splatters the imp, then steps forward to nail the captain.
However, he notices the captain foolishly standing right next to another barrel. This time, the explosion sets off a reaction, and tortured screams echo from the darkness. Bamp is rushed by the survivors, killing them as fast as they come into view. After one particularly painful shot, his armor is in tatters, effectively useless now. The creatures stop coming after a while, and he steps into the room to check his handiwork.

Kicking aside pieces of rubble and hellspawn, Bamp looks around the abused room, and the one alongside it. There is a metric TON of 10mm ammo lying around, more than enough to replenish his supplies, a Small Health Globe and…oh god. Not one, but TWO of those white Invulnerability spheres from earlier! This’ll fix up his injuries quick smart.
In his glee though, Bamp pays little attention to his surroundings, and is slow to notice a former captain and his lackey pointing their weapons at him…

The ex-humans, enraged at the loss of their comrades, open fire on Bamp. Realizing that his pain will be irrelevant in a few seconds, Bamp grins, flips them the bird, then advances towards the Globe, slowly and deliberately. Stretching out with a yawn even as bullets thus into his chest, Bamp lazily grabs the sphere. The pain fades instantly, and the bullets instead start bouncing off his skin.
He allows the beasts a brief look of horror before plugging them full of lead. A couple of imps run into view wondering what all the commotion is, and they suffer the same fate. Bamp feels safe once more. Searching the floor quickly, he notices a reload mod. He has a space free, but given that he used around 130 bullets this floor, he wonders if he shouldn’t pick up some more ammo instead.

(Alright, I’ve left my computer on for 2 nights straight now, I need to save the game, and to do that, I need to descend the stairs. So I’ll do this next short bit, k?)
Deciding that he’s already proficient at reloading enough as it is, Bamp leaves the mod behind. Going to grab some ammo, he notices something more important: fresh armor. Really thick, shiny red armor. Happily, he grabs the suit, and dons it. He feels a lot safer already. In the pile of loot dropped by the defeated monsters, he also finds more plasma cells.
Thinking that they’ll be needed soon, he fills the last space in his pack with cells. Pausing only to grab the other Invulnerability Globe, Bamp heads down to the next floor, to continue his genocide of Hell’s residents….
(Unfortunately, for a few days Bamp will be unable to continue his journey, as he has something far more evil, far more sinister than even the dreaded Cyberdemon to conquer…..bumignments! Log in to see images! |

Running down the stairs, Bamp finds himself in a small room. Noticing only one obvious exit and wanting to kill as many beasts as possible before his invulnerability wears off, he runs at the door, shoulder charging it open.

Noticing nothing but some barrels, acid and a Small Health Globe, Bamp keeps running, listening for trouble. He hears a chilling roar, but simply scoffs. If he can find and kill this new beast quickly, it won’t even be able to scratch him. Running into (and decimating) a group of imps, Bamp continues his search for the new enemy. However, he suddenly feels normal once more. Oh well, have to deal with it the usual way then.

He has taken less than 5 steps when a large ball of acid whooshes past, inches from his face! Spinning, Bamp’s heart sinks as he finds himself staring at his target. It’d been following him the whole time.

Seriously though, hell knights are pretty tough compared to what we’ve faced so far. They’re armored (which is annoying since we’re using a chaingun and armor applies to each shot), have fairly high HP, do a decent amount of damage, and their shots have a respectable explosion radius.
As for getting killed though? Unlikely unless we get REALLY unlucky. We’re at full health and nearly full armor, have a few healing items, and tons of ammo. We can fire off enough shots to kill it before it hurts us TOO much, but we’ll probably cop a bit of pummeling as well. |

Determined to wipe that grin off the male reproductive organy wanker’s face, Bamp starts unloading like crazy into the creature. Nearly all of the bullets hit it, but it simply growls and starts stomping towards him. Amazed at its ability to take punishment, Bamp stands like a rock, unyielding to the fearsome beast. Chuckling, it hurls another blast at him, grazing the marine’s hand.
He ignores the sting and desperately continues trying to bring it down. The hell knight is bleeding from dozens of bullet holes by the time it reaches him. Furious at this stubborn human, it rakes several gashes in Bamp’s chest with its wicked claws. Bamp begins to fear this might be his last battle, when the knight suddenly slows, staggers forward in one last feeble attempt at revenge, then collapses at his feet.

Sighing in relief, Bamp grabs some rockets the monster dropped, giving the huge corpse a savage kick just in case. He hopes that he doesn’t encounter too many more of them (*ominous music*). Checking his surroundings, Bamp finds nothing else that he really needs immediately, so he decides to continue exploring. Moving towards the east end of the floor, he hears several imps snorting. As he rounds a corner, he ducks just in time to miss a fireball. Noticing his opponents crowded around a barrel, he consigns them to a fiery fate.

Knowing there are health globes lying around, Bamp decides to take on the knight. This one has better aim than its fallen brother, scoring 2 direct hits to the chest with its projectiles. As it takes heavy damage, it pulls out a large medpack, and ignoring the bullets, proceeds to heal all its injuries. It stomps towards the marine, throwing more blasts as it strides, but a few lucky shots into the beast’s head fells it just as it reaches the marine.

Stepping over the dead demon, Bamp explores. Finding a former captain, he quickly dispatches it and grabs its ammo. To his dismay, he is hit just enough times for his armor to start falling apart. Its comforting protection seems less useful. Severely wounded, Bamp retreats to the west side of the floor and grabs a Large Health Globe.
Making his way back over to the east, he has to stop himself from punching the walls in frustration when he hears ANOTHER freaking hell knight. Luckily though, he finds a computer map of the whole floor. He debates where to check out next…

Go to the top of the screen, “explore” east with the chaingun. go to the bottom of the screen, repeat. Hear any pained moos? If not, then the hellknight is probably in the big room to the east. Shotgun is better for the “exploring” if you got it, but you don’t, I’m thinking? R2 edited this message on 06/10/2008 3:34AM |

Wary of the loud cow-like roar is the distance, Bamp edges along the north wall, keeping an eye out. Running into the east wall without encountering anything, he circles the huge room, hearing all sorts of noises inside. He comes across the door and peeks inside.

Shame about the former humans there. Would have been cool to push the barrel to your west east so that it’s near the wall, and blow it – that would also explode the barrel on the other side of the wall. Useful? Probably not. but cool Log in to see images!.
And by “explore”, I meant firing east with the chaingun until you hear pained moos. But that’s prolly not such a good tactic with that weapon, even though it could prolly work better with a pistol (less ammo wasted), with shotgun being the best. |

Ah, whoops. I usually just walk around and find critters by sight. What you’ve mentioned is a good tactic though, I really should use it more often. Log in to see images!
The barrel idea would be fun, but like you said, I’m not really comfortable showing an item full of explosive material past a bunch of things attempting to kill me. I love it when you set off a chain that continues through an entire room and lots of things die horribly though.

They’re all in a nice line, let them have it! Kill them, get some health from the top of the screen, and then edge carefully into the room. If the hell knight is near the barrel, blow the sucker away (the barrel). If not, put run on with tab (get hit less), and shoot away at the hell knight. |
