Okay, since I had no other people telling me what to do, I have slain them, flipped a switch (because flipping switches is awesome), the switch spawned more demons, and I killed them, to advance a level.

oh, I forgot to mention, I used one of my TWO starting medical kits, and I did not get any on the first level

well, I was lucky enough TO get a chaingun (like something_witty predicted), even though I went to low health while KILLING THE DEMONS, I have now attained a computer map (good for one level) and additional health (one globe, one small kit)
