Well as many of you know, for the last 3.5 years, Forumwarz has been my full time job. I’ve counted myself extremely lucky to be able to work on something I created from scratch and love so much.

Unfortunately, I noticed recently that our financial numbers just aren’t where they need to be to keep me on full time. Additionally, I was paying myself much less than I was worth in the market, and I couldn’t help but think that every month that went by was one where I was saving less for my future. Working on something you love is great fun while young, but I have to think of what I will do later on.

I ran this by the other members of CZ recently and we agreed that it made sense for me to look into other avenues of employment. I’ve carpet bombed craigslist with a bunch of resumes, and have a bunch of interviews scheduled.

I’m looking into part time or full time work, but so far it seems that there are many more full time opportunities.

What does this mean for Forumwarz?

Well I’ve always said, no matter what my #1 goal is to keep the site around as long as possible so that people can enjoy it. I’ve known for some time that I might not be able to work it full time forever, and never has it been an option to shut it down.

We have reduced our costs quite a bit over the last year, and I’m proud to say it makes more than enough to sustain itself for a long time at our current operating costs. The biggest factor was my salary, and with that eliminated we will be able to carry on for a very long time. Hell, even if the site started losing money I’d pay for it to stay up out of my own pocket.

One unfortunate thing is that it means I will have less time to dedicate to development. It will take longer to address non-game breaking bugs.

I hate to do this, as in a perfect world I’d be working on Forumwarz FT, but I hope you’ll all understand where I’m coming from.

Well we will try our darndest to get the bugs kinked out as son as we can. You wont have nearly as much now that episode 3 is done and all, thanks for at least seeing that through before you went on with bigger and possibly better things. Good luck with that too.

With Ep 3 out hopefully it will become simple enough maintenance soon enough and you can play with the fun Parts of fwz that had you make it in the first place.

And hopefully you can find a job out there that was as fun. Maybe if you’re lucky you can even find a job where they let you sit around with no pants on Log in to see images!
