Sabre_Justice Posted: I’ve given it some thought, Sabre, and I think I’ve found a couple of possible prestige clbumes for your character to advance into. You pick one that you think sounds interesting, and I’ll Tubmail you the requisites to move into it. Alternatively, if you find anything that looks interesting to you, let me know anyway. The rest of you, look away. Log in to see images!
– Thrall of Juiblex: Juiblex is a chaotic-evil demon whose domain is that of slime and ooze. Their abilities run towards secreting caustic slime, summoning oozes, spreading disease and contagion, altering their face and forms, and spewing projectile vomit. For an apathetic character, he might just as well sell his soul to a foul demon as long as it keeps him alive. Recommended. – Warrior of Darkness: through mastery of alchemy the Warrior of Darkness anoints himself with strange oils and potions to gain supernatural powers, such as darkling weapon (weapon gains +1 or equivalent enchantment bonus), dark senses (ability to sense anything within 60 ft even in complete darkness), demonic wings and such. Alternatively, you can just level up purely as a fighter and build your character around the fighting styles as shown in the Quintessential Fighter, in which case you’ll need to take note of the requirements each have for their style. With the halberd, Orask is probably the best choice, or Ralix if you prefer something more plain. I’ll stay away from Horsepike because I’ll tell you straight up that we won’t be doing much mounted combat in this game. There’s no reason why you can’t take a prestige clbum and a fighting style at the same time, just take into consideration the feats required. Why do I ask about your intended path of progress? For starters, it would probably affect your skill and feat choices from early on, and I’ll like you guys to be able to develop a character that is full not only story-wise, but also mechanically flavourful as well. Prestige clbumes, I find, add a lot of flavour especially mechanically, so that’s what I usually look at first. Equipment suggestions and reviews coming up next. |

Sabre_Justice Posted:
Where is this from? I’m afraid I can’t find it in my 3.5 SRD, but regardless it’s not in 3.0. Sorry mate. Which reminds me, since your background is predominantly 3.5: Power Attack may not work the way you’re used to. Have a quick re-read through the feats in 3.0, but otherwise things should be pretty much the same.
Equipment --------- 258gp + gold from boots +1 Halberd 2310gp +1 Spiked Full Plate 2700gp Battleaxe 10gp MW Composite Longbow 400gp Arrows x40 2gp Ring of +1 Protection 2000gp Backpack and basics 100gp -Caltrops -Crowbar -Bedroll -Bullseye lantern -Fishing rod -Rope -Signal whistle -Tindertwigs -other miscellanea
I like the equipment so far save for the Boots, which are (again) not in 3.0 unfortunately. Log in to see images! However, there’s a lot you can consider in place of the boots: I’ve sent you an email with a list of possible magic items on p732. Take a gander and maybe consider some of the following:
– Potions of Cure Moderate/Serious Wounds (300/750gp): Like I told Night Gaunt, potions are very often an adventurer’s best friend, and all the more so for a frontline fighter like yourself. Expect to be smacked around quite often, so pot up!
– Potion of Bull Strength (300gp): If your wizard’s all out of buffs, it’s up to you to come prepared. The 1d4+1 enhancement to Strength not only means +1 to hit, but also a +1 to damage: the equivalent of an additional point of enchantment on your halberd. Definitely worth stocking up on.
– Amulet of Natural Armour (2000gp): Because +1 AC is +1 AC.
– Boots of Striding and Springing (2500gp): Read it and weep. Yes, that’s double your movement speed. In full plate armour, when you only move 20ft, moving that additional 20ft can be invaluable. Besides, this boots also gives you +10 to Jump. Is that a bargain or is that a bargain?
– Gray Bag of Tricks (900gp): I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved the bag of tricks. Nothing really beats the feeling of being a Pokemon master, I expect. In all seriousness, though, the Bag of Tricks’ summons can sometimes be more useful than you think; a rat can gnaw through rope, a bat can scout and scare people, a cat is nice to stroke… that sort of stuff. |

To genericangstyposter: do you have any character progression in mind currently? I was thinking Disciple of Baalzebul or Mammon looks best for your character, though if you have any other in mind let me know. Of course, feel free to stay as a pure rogue/multiclbum if you so desire.
To everyone, since Dinctius has been sort of MIA these few days, does anyone mind if we go ahead with just three people? Or do you prefer to wait for a new person to join, or wait for Dinctius to return? Let’s take a vote on it. |

I’m afraid I’ll have to bail out of this ****, folks. College is biting me in the bum pretty hard, and though I’m still interested, I doubt I can make a full commitment to the tale at hand right now. Which is a pity, because I kinda looked forward to it.

Well, this is a lot to work with.
As for the Prestige clbumes… I like the look of the Disciple of Dispater, and power over iron? How can I resist? Not as crazy about Jubilex, ooze isn’t really my thing. Warrior of Darkness looks interesting, but he’d need some help, perhaps from a certain wizard… that might be an option if they become something resembling friends. I’ll try and keep all those options open, and see how he develops as the game goes on. Intimidating Strike is from Player’s Handbook II. I don’t really have access to 3.0 material, so you’re gonna have to spell these things out for me. I can just replace that with Weapon Specialisation (Halberd) if you want, that was my other option for that slot. I think. Downloading the PDF now. In the meantime, those other boots look good. He’s in big heavy armour and all, so something to compensate for that will probably be welcome. Although stocking up on potions also sounds like a good idea… I also gotta think in character. Zak doesn’t seem like the most creative kinda guy, so I doubt he’d invest in a Bag of Tricks. Amulet of Natural Armour… eh. Looks exactly the same as a +1 Ring, not that that’s a bad thing. The boots mean I’ll have to ditch something else… so maybe I’ll just go for some potions. He already has Jump anyway. How about 2 Potions of Bull’s Strength, and 2 Potions of Cure Moderate Wounds? |

Sabre_Justice Posted: I was hoping you’ll say Dispater. Log in to see images! As much as I’ll like to keep things as much open as possible, a problem with advancement is that you need to meet certain prerequisites before you can take a level in them. Take, for example, the two you’ve chosen. Both of them have vastly different requisites, as listed below:
Alignment: any evil Base Attack Bonus: +6 Feats: Disciple of Darkness, Expertise, Power Attack Special: Must be initiated into the cult of Dispater. Warrior of Darkness Alignment: any evil Base Attack Bonus: +5 Skills: Alchemy 3 ranks, Knowledge (Arcana) 3 ranks, Speak Language (Abyssal or Infernal), Spellcraft 1 rank. Feats: Iron Will Special: Must endure a week’s worth of painful and scarring black magic rituals performed in solitude, the secrets of which take months to study and research successfully. Don’t worry about this, I’ll arrange for this to happen if you so decide to go with this clbum. Intimidating Strike is from Player’s Handbook II. I don’t really have access to 3.0 material, so you’re gonna have to spell these things out for me. I can just replace that with Weapon Specialisation (Halberd) if you want, that was my other option for that slot. I think. Thanks. Log in to see images! The PDF you’re downloading now should have all the information you require to choose your feats as well as equipment: have a look at p54 for the complete list. In addition, one of the feats from the above spoiler block will be listed here for you:
The character formally supplicates himself to the powers of darkness. Once per day, while performing an evil act, he may call upon his diabolic patron to add a +1 luck modifier to any roll. You may not take this feat more than once, though you can choose the specific archdevil patron at a later date because you’re not too sure if you want to go with Dispater. I also gotta think in character. Zak doesn’t seem like the most creative kinda guy, so I doubt he’d invest in a Bag of Tricks. Amulet of Natural Armour… eh. Looks exactly the same as a +1 Ring, not that that’s a bad thing. The potions look good, maybe more healing if you have the cash left over. Log in to see images! |

Although Baalzebul fits my play style more, I’ll have to go with Mammon for RP reasons. He could never worship a giant slug. Ugh! I’m going to have to adjust some skills, but not too terribly much.

1. If I need something in my equipment/something in my equipment is unnecessary, let me know.
2. I changed my skills to reflect the character more. Of course, this means we have a rogue without spot or listen. I figured since he’s very self absorbed, it fit his character better. Also, I wanted rope use and escape artist for… obvious reasons.

If nobody minds, I’m going to write up histories for each of the respective magical weapons and armour you’re holding because it’s a slow day and, frankly, I quite enjoy this kind of thing. Log in to see images!. So, here goes nothing.
Black Kestrel: This halberd +1 feels slightly cool and clammy to the touch for some reason. Forged from fire-blackened steel, the blade of the halberd is carved into a baroque representation of many screaming human faces, each etched out in pure fear or pain. They say that the Kestrel is pure evil, that it was forged by a devil in the fires of the Nine Hells from the soul of a young child, beaten out upon an infernal furnace until her very sufferance formed the cold iron of the halberd. In the middle of the night, when all is still, if you listen very carefully… you might still hear her scream.
Soulcage: Forged from a single ore of iron alloyed by strange alchemical formulas and ancient spells, this spiked full-plate +1 is ornate and carved with a persistent rose insignia so that should a sword or spear strike the armour, instead of glancing off and perchance striking a more vital region, the point simply remains stuck in place. Though it has seen many wars and yet more decades, the black steel still remains as polished as it was when it was first forged. Indeed, some say that the armour saps at the soul of its wearer bit by bit, until nothing but paranoia and fear is left: and when that day comes, when the half-crazed warrior finally loses his mind and takes his own life, his soul will finally join the innumerous previous wielders within that black monstrosity of an armour. And the Soulcage glints just a little bit brighter than it used to.
Vanity: this silver ring of protection +1 is plain and unadorned on the outside; however, on the inside, a small cruelly-shaped barb appears poised to pierce the flesh of anyone who tries to wear it. Upon closer examination, the entire inside of the ring is an extremely elaborate low-relief carving of a scorpion, the barb being the creature’s extended sting. In the distance, one can see the detail of dunes and even a sunset. Legend has it that this was the ring that started the war between House Detrius and Euris, that this ring was commissioned from Euris to Detrius as a gift on the young Baroness’ wedding: a poignant reminder of the old City proverb, “o vanity, thy sting is venomous indeed”.
Glath: this long dagger +1 appears to be carved from a man’s femur that is then bound with hide and sharpened to a deadly point. While notched and scratched from wear and tear, the Dwarven runic carvings that adorn every inch of the weapon can still be read clearly: it is a warning to all who may oppose the might of the Dark Seers, a cult of subterranean deep dwarves who worship a strange and ancient power. The script then goes on to exhort the prowess and skill of the Dark Seers and their many legendary deeds; you haven’t quite heard of the Dark Seers, but you suppose that the bone was “donated” by someone who has and did not agree with them.
Loreseeker: carved from the antlers of a majestic stag, this longbow +1 is threaded with the finest spidersilk and is almost impossible to break. The elven name “Loreseeker” is carved onto the inner recurve of the bow: it’s not quite sure if that is the name of the former owner or the name of the bow, but through the ages that has been the name the bow took for itself. For some strange inexplicable reason, the bowstring is knotted in the dead middle: this doesn’t affect the bow’s pull or strength, but is rather puzzling all the same, having no precedence in neither elvish nor human bow-making. For a name like Loreseeker, almost nothing is known about this bow. |

eponymous_ennui Posted: Nice. Truly nasty equipment, and brilliant backstories. I gotta learn more about D&D so I can think up stuff myself. And at what level will I pretty much have to decide on a Prestige Clbum? If I have to do so now, the Disciple of Dispater sounds like the best idea. Although as I said, the Warrior of Darkness could be an option depending on how much about magic Zak learns. If he helps the wizard guy out with his experiments… ...BTW, am I the only one who looks at the Rogue’s name and sees Jason Vorhees? I’m gonna be careful around him… Sabre_Justice edited this message on 11/14/2007 10:15PM |

Sabre_Justice Posted: Well, while technically you could decide upon your prestige clbum at any time, generally the requirements are such that you’ll have to spend a fair bit of time woman's genitals-footing around re-taking a whole new skill and feat set before you can progress into it. I wouldn’t say that you have to decide on it now, but let’s just say that I’ll recommend that you did, lest you realise that you have a completely redundant set of skills two levels down the road and would have to do everything again. I’ll post up both PRCs for you when I get home, so you can make an informed decision as to which one you want to progress into. Log in to see images! |
