D&D Interest CheckRegarding dice rolling: how do you guys want to settle it? I make the rolls for everyone, or an online dice roller? The former would definitely be faster, but I know some people who swear that the DM fudges rolls just so they can kill their characters off. Let’s hear your opinions, guys.
And once that’s settled, we’re good to go! (view post) |

Spells: You can learn 2 more spells of any level. Also, a clarification on how wizard spellcasting work: you probably know this already, but just to make sure we’re on the same page here. Page, get it? I kill myself. Anyway. You get to scribe 2 spells of any level into your spellbook for free every time you level up. You may also learn new spells by scribing scrolls into the spellbook with a successful Spellcraft check.
Every day you choose a few spells from your spellbook to memorise for the day. You may only cast memorised spells, and once you cast it it’s gone from your memory until you prepare it again. Currently you can memorise four cantrips, four level 1 and three level 2 spells per day. In the sample I filled in above I prepared 3 castings of Disrupt Undead and 1 Mage Hand for you. Feel free to screw around with the values.
Skills: you’re unfortunately 9 skill points over because Move Silently and Hide are both cross-clbum skills; that means you need to spend 2 skill points to raise one rank. That’s what the * denotes, anyway. For a quick and dirty fix I’ll recommend this skill list instead. Or shuffle around the values some more if you prefer.
Alchemy 8 (7 ranks + 3 Int) Concentration 7 (5 ranks + 2 Con) Hide 5 (1 ranks + 2 Dex)* Knowledge (Religion) 10 (7 ranks + 3 Int) Knowledge (City) 9 (6 ranks + 3 Int) Move Silently 6 (2 ranks + 2 Dex)* Scry 8 (5 ranks + 3 Int) Spellcraft 10 (7 ranks + 3 Int)
Inventory: Are you buying one of each scroll only? Log in to see images! I mean there’s nothing wrong with doing that, it’s just that scrolls really expand a wizard’s casting repertoire. Take note that your scrolls vanish if you a) cast them or b) successfully scribe it into your spellbook!
School Specialization: Remember, you get to memorise 1 additional Necromancy spell per spell level per day, and you’ll not be able to cast any Enchantment spells, even from scrolls or wands. You also receive +2 to Spellcraft on any Necromancy spells. (view post) |

D&D Interest CheckSabre_Justice Posted: Nah, didn’t mean like meeting an old squadmate, though that’s a possibility. It’s just that anyone who can speak in both languages would likely attract both sides of the Blood War (clicky for Wiki): the eternal conflict of the lower planes. Of course, your character wouldn’t know anything about it unless you’ve got Knowledge (Planar), but it makes for good OOC (Out of Character) reading all the same. (view post) |

D&D Interest CheckSabre_Justice Posted: To a certain extent. Speaking Abyssal has the tendency to drag you deeper and further into the depths of chaos and evil, not to mention attract the attention of the demonic, while Infernal drags you towards a more ordered sort of evil and attracts the devilish. Mechanically, there’s no difference as far as the PRC is concerned, but character-wise, it depends on which way you want to go. As a suggestion, here’s a bit of backstory for your character. Feel free to alter or reject it as you will. While still a fresh-faced recruit to the army, Zak bunked with a dwarven alchemist named Vlel Stonecutter. The two of them bonded through the hardship of training and war: nothing builds trust and rapport between two people than saving his life from an explosion of alchemist fire flung by a gnomish warmachine. But the fates are never kind: Vlel caught a crossbow bolt in the chest as he shoved you away from the sights of a gnoll marksman on the opposite side of the trench. You can still remember the expression on his face as his bandolier of alchemist fire began to shatter, one after another, and how he went down silently, not even screaming when the acid flasks began to explode. You tried to put the flames out with your bare hands, but your commander dragged you away, all this while screaming for the platoon’s sorcerer to cover the retreat. He was your only friend, and he had died saving you. You, with your worthless, decadent, empty existence. Vlel had so much to live for: a home to return to, a wife who loved him dearly, a little girl who he has not seen for years… and he saved you instead. The next day, you volunteered for the Obsidian Legion. There were no “friends” in the Legion: each man looked after himself as best as he could and trusted no one beyond the length of his sword. Sure, there was much drinking and laughter and whoring together at the end of a job, but you weren’t “friends”. The drink and the drugs made it easier to forget everything you’ve seen and done: and, as far as “doing things” went, the Legion did everything. The Legion is also made up by a lot of half-fiends, most of whom speak Abyssal or Infernal. You choose which one you want. Log in to see images! (view post) |

D&D Interest CheckSabre_Justice Posted: Excellent! Log in to see images! Yes, that was very right indeed. Now if only I had a fap icon to show my pleasure… In other news, you’re free to choose Abyssal (Chaotic) or Infernal (Lawful) for your PRC: both counts towards the requirements. Here they are again for handy-dandy reference.
Alignment: any evil Base Attack Bonus: +6 Feats: Disciple of Darkness, Expertise, Power Attack Special: Must be initiated into the cult of Dispater. Warrior of Darkness Alignment: any evil Base Attack Bonus: +5 Skills: Alchemy 3 ranks, Knowledge (Arcana) 3 ranks, Speak Language (Abyssal or Infernal), Spellcraft 1 rank. Feats: Iron Will Special: Must endure a week’s worth of painful and scarring black magic rituals performed in solitude, the secrets of which take months to study and research successfully. Don’t worry about this, I’ll arrange for this to happen if you so decide to go with this clbum. Take note, Sabre, your skill points should total up to 28 (2 base + 1 Int + 1 Human, multiplied by 7). Currently they total up to 21 only (remember the one free rank in Knowledge- City), so you’ve still got 7 skill points to spend. May I suggest Alchemy? (view post) |

Fair enough, except that posting in an interest check thread to say that you’re not interested is kind of like walking into a pizza shop and ordering a steak. Following the same analogy, “gee, I’ll love to join butI have college” is like walking into the same pizza shop and not having enough money to pay for the pizza: we’ll love to serve you the pepperoni and cheese too, but…

D&D Interest CheckSabre_Justice Posted: Well, while technically you could decide upon your prestige clbum at any time, generally the requirements are such that you’ll have to spend a fair bit of time woman's genitals-footing around re-taking a whole new skill and feat set before you can progress into it. I wouldn’t say that you have to decide on it now, but let’s just say that I’ll recommend that you did, lest you realise that you have a completely redundant set of skills two levels down the road and would have to do everything again. I’ll post up both PRCs for you when I get home, so you can make an informed decision as to which one you want to progress into. Log in to see images! (view post) |

D&D Interest CheckIf nobody minds, I’m going to write up histories for each of the respective magical weapons and armour you’re holding because it’s a slow day and, frankly, I quite enjoy this kind of thing. Log in to see images!. So, here goes nothing.
Black Kestrel: This halberd +1 feels slightly cool and clammy to the touch for some reason. Forged from fire-blackened steel, the blade of the halberd is carved into a baroque representation of many screaming human faces, each etched out in pure fear or pain. They say that the Kestrel is pure evil, that it was forged by a devil in the fires of the Nine Hells from the soul of a young child, beaten out upon an infernal furnace until her very sufferance formed the cold iron of the halberd. In the middle of the night, when all is still, if you listen very carefully… you might still hear her scream.
Soulcage: Forged from a single ore of iron alloyed by strange alchemical formulas and ancient spells, this spiked full-plate +1 is ornate and carved with a persistent rose insignia so that should a sword or spear strike the armour, instead of glancing off and perchance striking a more vital region, the point simply remains stuck in place. Though it has seen many wars and yet more decades, the black steel still remains as polished as it was when it was first forged. Indeed, some say that the armour saps at the soul of its wearer bit by bit, until nothing but paranoia and fear is left: and when that day comes, when the half-crazed warrior finally loses his mind and takes his own life, his soul will finally join the innumerous previous wielders within that black monstrosity of an armour. And the Soulcage glints just a little bit brighter than it used to.
Vanity: this silver ring of protection +1 is plain and unadorned on the outside; however, on the inside, a small cruelly-shaped barb appears poised to pierce the flesh of anyone who tries to wear it. Upon closer examination, the entire inside of the ring is an extremely elaborate low-relief carving of a scorpion, the barb being the creature’s extended sting. In the distance, one can see the detail of dunes and even a sunset. Legend has it that this was the ring that started the war between House Detrius and Euris, that this ring was commissioned from Euris to Detrius as a gift on the young Baroness’ wedding: a poignant reminder of the old City proverb, “o vanity, thy sting is venomous indeed”.
Glath: this long dagger +1 appears to be carved from a man’s femur that is then bound with hide and sharpened to a deadly point. While notched and scratched from wear and tear, the Dwarven runic carvings that adorn every inch of the weapon can still be read clearly: it is a warning to all who may oppose the might of the Dark Seers, a cult of subterranean deep dwarves who worship a strange and ancient power. The script then goes on to exhort the prowess and skill of the Dark Seers and their many legendary deeds; you haven’t quite heard of the Dark Seers, but you suppose that the bone was “donated” by someone who has and did not agree with them.
Loreseeker: carved from the antlers of a majestic stag, this longbow +1 is threaded with the finest spidersilk and is almost impossible to break. The elven name “Loreseeker” is carved onto the inner recurve of the bow: it’s not quite sure if that is the name of the former owner or the name of the bow, but through the ages that has been the name the bow took for itself. For some strange inexplicable reason, the bowstring is knotted in the dead middle: this doesn’t affect the bow’s pull or strength, but is rather puzzling all the same, having no precedence in neither elvish nor human bow-making. For a name like Loreseeker, almost nothing is known about this bow. (view post) |
