We have completion. All 100 pieces, gathered during the course of hundreds of visits, and over 4500 drops from three forums (and those are just the drops I recorded for droprate spading purposes)

And now the stats

This is bull****, I quit forever.

Like Fort said, the file’s power is based on how the apprentices voted while I believe the pieces it requires is based randomly, also there are several archetypes within each .moar type from which the stat distribution is bumigned.

Given that the name of the file isn’t the funniest dogreat timesent file imho I’m not at all surprised though I don’t think it’s at all malicious. what’s_up.sdoc I believe will have the most upvotes, though any apprentice could really confirm deny this at this point and let us know if we spaded the most powerful files yet.

Belgium, like all the .moars of ep3, are a great example of ET setting up an algorithm to choose the file stats and either not linking pieces to power like in episode 2 or just making it too random. Prolly should have done some of it by hand or gotten someone to do that for him Log in to see images!

Actually, now that I searched that damned thread for the file, it got a pretty good number of votes… I imagine it’ll get a boost.

That said, I’m surprised any of you are shocked by this. Did you not all know there was going to be at least one file that took an obscene number of visits that would need a hell of a buff?

I don’t think it’s surprise so much as disappointment and frustration. You’ve seen the number of “this item is imbalanced” reports I’ve submitted, and this is just another example of it. ET’s using a flawed algorithm to generate items, and it looks like this algorithm is the one used in Ep3 item generation as well. ET’s time is limited, and CZ knows what’s important to do to keep the business afloat, but from the end-user point of view, it looks like new development is getting the priority over bug fixes. I think that may have been misheard. the number of pieces is definitely concurrent with the number of upvotes the apprenties gave, with Belgium, What’s up, and Penn and Teller being the top three if i recall correctly. The power though, is unfortunately to scale, for the most part. the actual power of the files looks like it was run through a random number generator, an bum pull of epic proportions. >:C

I’m guessing (honestly, hopefully incorrectly (yay adverb overload!)) that you mean the dom dev? Which is a LONG OVERDUE bug fix… and known long before anyone even thought of spading the ep3 moar files…

He’s not ignoring bugs, his time is just incredibly limited. This isn’t news. And lately, it’s even more limited than normal.

I know people are upset with the stats, but really, what kind of bug is this? It’s not like it affects your play through the episode… it might affect dom WAY down the line, but that’s gonna be pretty rare, too. Give him more than a few hours to get to it. Hell, I know you know more than anyone right now that it’s taking time to get to bug reports. Unfortunately, there are a few *high priority* reports in the queue that he hasn’t had the chance to address yet.

The dom change is a bug fix? I thought it was just a way to improve the game. I didn’t realize it was broken in the sense that it wasn’t working as originally intended.

And I lumped this one in with the itembuildr bug, which is also long overdue to be fixed. Hard for me to believe that an algorithm which puts out an overabundance of +6 Def / +6 Off tattoos is working properly, and I’m making a (possibly incorrect) bumumption that a similar if not identical algorithm was used in coming up with the Ep3 .moar file stats.

I'm your ****leberry.

Put a zero at the end of each stat on that thing and it’ll be well worth getting. Yes, the ego, too.

+2k ego on a file means you don’t have to burn as many points on Egomania, so you can reinvest them elsewhere.

In retrospect this probably isn’t really shocking. In ep 2 there was a super powerful music file and all of the other categories were capped at +7 max. In ep 3 it looks like all of the non-music categories are capped at 21 or 22. Dunatis, you ever going to finish What’s Up.doc so we can see it is a +22 file?

I’m a bit surprised, since Banhammer said Trout/JB individually spec’d each file but given the arbitrary distribution of size, power and the discontinuity between popular names and power, it’s like ET picked out stats, then bumigned those stats randomly to files, randomly gave them sizes and randomly bumigned them to forums.

I find it hard to believe it’s coincidental that the most useful files are also the ones easiest to get (how commonly pieces drop, low piece count), while the .moars one has to go out of the way to get turn out being useless. But that seems to be the case!

This is irrelevant to failgium, but as a Level 69 Re-Re I can pwn AWMIB without investing a single point in Ego and still get scoops. I don’t have Bonsai Buddy or Colonel Sanders either, so with Episode 3’s current .moar selection I don’t really think +2K Ego is really all that necessary for other clbumes.

That file has no real value aside from its Offense.

Not too shabby, but not exactly worth grinding for cash.

Meanwhile I’ve got some (25) leftover visits… anywhere those could be put to good use? That alt has access to all of (and only) the non-vanishing forums.

Well Habanero and Chickenheads both have awful drop rates at least until Chickenheads showed up in forumbuildr forums. Habanero does have an extremely low piece count of course.

Anyway great work Man Man, I think I finally see a light at the end of the spading tunnel.

I hope so, Admittedly I beat DinkDonkDoink with the guy spading it once I got the other files to do Thickeheads and it did have better drop rates than elsewhere. But I did recently finish all the Thickeheads spading and am going back to exclusively hunting what’s_up with him and I hope to use up some more BP on it (which I still have a whole lot of) when I get the time Log in to see images!

And I doubt that the files will ever be “fixed”, if they are indeed broken. Given time constraints and the fact that no matter what they do we’ll never really be happy I’d only see them doing it out of a pure desire for ongoing balance down to the most minor of details. I’d just be happy if the new Buildr Forums were made a little more balanced in their drops…
