I had the first bum avatar.

Wow, this writer just launches a full-on bumault on the hipster “counterculture.” It’s a thing of beauty.

I lick her up afterwards (After her great times session too! Yum!)

It’s pretty presumptive to hail hipsterdom as the end of western (counter)culture. I’m not a fan of the whole hipster thing but the article does seem to reek of that ‘in my day countercultures knew how to fight for social change!’ crotchety grumbling.

In a way, those types of movements are beginning to be obsolete anyways. I’d say the next generations are going to be defined by immense, and largely positive, social changes due to something right under our noses: The internet and internet culture. (and no, by ‘internet culture’ i’m not talking about 4chan memes)

I agree, he overstates the case. And there is a lot of potential for change out there thanks to the web. But, it’s nice to see someone sticking it to those hipsters nevertheless.

The author is actually a young guy, and probably a guilt-wracked hipster himself. I pretty much felt the same way about the prevailing “counterculture” when I was a teenager…skateboarding mall-punks didn’t exactly have a lot to say.

Indeed – when one thinks about it (and as the articles in TimeOut seem to suggest), hipsterdom tends to be far too insular to really affect anything.

Case in point: in Vancouver, where I live, the whole hipster scene sometimes seems to me less an actual scene scene than a bunch of buddies who are all in the same bands and go to each other’s art showings.

Of course, this is Vancouver we’re talking about, which really still is a small place compared to even Toronto say, hence probably not enough people to support a parallel community of hangers on. My two cents. Done.
