I agree, he overstates the case. And there is a lot of potential for change out there thanks to the web. But, it’s nice to see someone sticking it to those hipsters nevertheless.

The author is actually a young guy, and probably a guilt-wracked hipster himself. I pretty much felt the same way about the prevailing “counterculture” when I was a teenager…skateboarding mall-punks didn’t exactly have a lot to say.

Indeed – when one thinks about it (and as the articles in TimeOut seem to suggest), hipsterdom tends to be far too insular to really affect anything.

Case in point: in Vancouver, where I live, the whole hipster scene sometimes seems to me less an actual scene scene than a bunch of buddies who are all in the same bands and go to each other’s art showings.

Of course, this is Vancouver we’re talking about, which really still is a small place compared to even Toronto say, hence probably not enough people to support a parallel community of hangers on. My two cents. Done.
