Animal Cruelty and Meat ConsumptionWe eat meat for a very good reason; it’s easier than gathering foliage. Animal meat is much more dense in calorie energy, and more convenient when they are domesticated. Like it or not, society would not exist in it’s current form if we hadn’t mastered the skill of animal domestication. And that includes using animals as food sources.
Do I support cruel & inhumane treatment of our food animals? No. Am I going to lose sleep at night because it happens? No. There are a LOT of things more important in the world than how poor Betsy is treated when she goes into the slaughterhouse. I’m going to focus my efforts and concern on more important problems (like the fact that millions of people don’t even have the luxury of choosing to be vegetarians, because all food sources are scarce in their area, and they’d happily eat ‘rotting, decomposing flesh’ ) before I worry about whether or not Wilbur was treated kindly before he became my afternoon BLT.
And to whoever made the comment about ‘decomposing flesh’... seriously, plant matter decomposes as well, so unless you’re eating your tomatoes and lettuce straight from the plant while it’s still attached to the ground, you’re eating decomposing plant matter. Yummy, compost is good for lunch. (view post) |

A serious discussion about shock images / ofensive material.Angry hobo Posted: Czarnian bumbumin Posted: My point is that if a Mod knows that it’s ‘friendly, playful banter’, then, at the Mod’s discretion, it can be ignored. (Might help if an emoticon was used to suggest lightheartedness, or even a closer that clarified that.) But the Mod may not know that two players are just poking good-natured fun at each other. That’s why I called it a gray area. To be on the safe side, don’t push that envelope unless you know that McBan & Tubs both know the score. (view post) |

I’m sure if ET reports that post to McBan, then something will happen. Log in to see images! That’s definitely a ‘grey-area’ trolling, if you even want to call it that. Two close friends poking light fun at each other really shouldn’t be considered trolling, especially if the Mod knows that fact.
You’ve got a solid argument regarding the lynching photo in a non-RP forum. I’d stick with that for now, instead of trying to light another fire elsewhere. (view post) |

A serious discussion about shock images / ofensive material.Angry hobo Posted: I completely concur. That post is intentional trolling, and should be treated as such in a non-RP forum. Specifically, it fits into one of my criteria listed above. (view post) |

A serious discussion about shock images / ofensive material.1337xxxlolololxxx1337 Posted: Um… I did? I asked you to explain how you came to that conclusion. I didn’t attack or insult you in anyway. How was what I said in any way uncivil? I didn’t say more people are offended by gay porn than shock, I said more people are homophobic, as in a majority of people are homophobic. This is where the confusion arose. If you had said ‘most people’ are homophobic, then it would have been clearer. When you said ‘more’, it seemed that you were comparing the number of people that were homophobis to the number of people that are offended by shock images. Thanks for clearing that up. The type of people on this site are no more likely to be offended by goatse than lots of gay porn. That’s a huge bumumption. Goatse is much more graphic than normal gay porn. (view post) |

1. How did you come to the conclusion that more people are homophobic than are offended by the shock images we are discussing? 2. Aren’t these images primarily confined to the RP forums? Where do they appear elsewhere? (view post) |

A serious discussion about shock images / ofensive material. If it involves any type of graphic violence or death. If it involves any type of extreme bodily function. These are definitely on the ‘shock’ side. Yes, I’ve seen goatse many times. I’ve seen the ‘pain’ pictures. It’s still offensive.
Other pictures are grey-area. Bush wearing a goatse hat, since you don’t see anything really graphic, that’s funny, but mildly offensive.
The argument that agreeing that “I am not easily offended” is free reign for anything and everything is absolute bunk. I’ve personally seen a lot of graphic stuff IRL, but that doesn’t make it any less offensive.
This is simply splitting hairs and trying to determine just how far the envelope can be pushed. That’s not the point of the non-RP forums. If you don’t want to risk getting in trouble, then err on the side of caution, and save that new picture of Hitler making out with Jesus for the Trollhole.
If it distracts or detracts from the purpose of the forum or the thread, then don’t post it, whether it’s a shock image or not. (view post) |

American footbal sucksHaving played both sports in high school, this is a really stupid argument. Both sports are physically intensive and competitive.
