Wow guys, it feels like only yesterday I was writing the second installment of this series. But it’s actually been a long, eventful, FULL three days. Amazing how time flies, isn’t it?
This week, in Forumwarz’s grand tradition of members that everybody hates, we see the return of a user who thinks he’s the **** (but is really full of ****) – Sergeant Cid. However, the distinctive quality that sets Sergeant Cid aside from infamous users such as Dante Kinkade, iRawr, FalconFour, Virtual Eyes, etc., is that he’s actually been given mod powers, and is clearly not hesitant as he straw-grasps to use them.
Now usually, I would take a screenshot of the ban screen, edit it, and post it here…but as I was too busy to do this yesterday, I will express the actions that led up to the ban in the form of emoticons. Please read this thread for the proper context.

Now, given his movement of a thread celebrating the lift of the ban on gay marriage in Iowa from NO SRSLY to GRP, and his new, ****ty “typing with a lisp” gimmick, I could certainly play the “SERGEANT CID IS A MONSTROUS HOMOPHONE” angle, but that would be stupid and obvious. Instead, I’ll just suggest that Cid ban Nicco for this thread. Maybe banning another moderator will give him that rush he’s been looking for, and he can stop power-tripping all over our forums.
That’s all I’ve got for now, so I’ll close the thread with a bit of awesome:

Nicco’s thread was originally created in January, before the new rules and before either he or I were made Mods.
In other words, none of the Mods are going to go back, digging up excuses to ban people for previous non-RP ALL CAPS threads.

But in all my experience as a moderator, I’ve never issued a ban for all caps – simply editing the title, and leaving a “Mod edit for all caps” note gets the message across much more easily than a ban.
What I’m more concerned with is…in what part of that post do you find something that constitutes as “trolling”? I don’t see anything blatantly offensive or inflammatory in that post.

For a first offense, I did just that with another poster. However, this wasn’t your first offense. We can go into more details privately, if you’d like, so that you know where you stand.
First off, the title of the thread (COMMIE HOMO-LOVING SONS OF GUNS)is definitely trolling. Humorous trolling, to be sure, but still trolling.
If the thread title had been more civil and not ALLCAPS, then it would have been fine in NO SRSLY. I’d have even let the “That’s how we do this **** in Iowa, ****es” part go right by as a very minor ‘lulzy’ addition.

If it were an obscure event, I wouldn’t have used the phrase, because THEN it might be misconstrued as trolling. But this is a current event that almost everybody has heard about.

I know what it came from. In fact, Sean Penn winning Best Actor helped me tie for first place in the ForumWarz Oscar Prediction Pool.
If you’d posted a thread titled “YIPPIE-KAI-YAY, ****!” in NO SRSLY, to discuss the Die Hard films, it would still be an inappropriate thread title, for both reasons (mostly for the ALLCAPS). And that phrase is definitely more in the public consciousness than an off-handed comment during the Oscars.
Like I said, I might have been more understanding if it weren’t for the ALLCAPS. As it stands, it was a minor ban, you’re aware of the rule now, so I doubt it’ll be an issue in the future. |
