Item buildrI think the point is to introduce more desirable items for kyoubai. Since it’s not that hard to get a good set of files, and after that you’re just spinning the wheels and collecting. But people do bid on things simply because they’re rare, and people may well end up bidding extra intensively on an item that they had a part in creating.
But basically, I think it’s so there’s a consistent supply of rarish special kyoubai auctions (like the headset, but less powerful probably), to keep people interested and to sink a lot of flezz. (view post) |

Well, you see 100 is the ascii for ‘d’, but D is the roman numeral for 500 but in order to convert form capital to lowercase we need to divide by 20. So d = D/XX = 25

I have a master’s degree in math, can I use that instead?
Binary is not a secret means to express letters. It’s a numeral system that expresses numbers in a different way. Every number has a binary representation, a ternary representation, a quaternary representation, any base you like. What base you use depends on what sort of context you’re working in. For computers, binary is useful since the architecture makes it easy to express things like “yes” and “no” (i.e. “above a certain voltage” and “below a certain voltage” ), while further granularity is difficult.
Computers thus tend to store everything in terms of binary since it’s the most natural system of numerals to do in a computer, however they are still prima facie just numbers. The way we convert them to letters is with a chart that says “okay, this number corresponds to this letter”, for example here. The number 100 doesn’t necessarily mean ‘d’, it’s just that when some smart guys got together and laid out the ASCII table, they decided that 100 was a good one for ‘d’, and pretty much everybody decided to go with it.
But your argument really requires a ton of leaps.
1100100 (binary) = 100 (decimal) -> ‘d’ (ascii table) -> 25 (???????)
Anyway, 100 isn’t the ascii for ‘D’ (that’s 68) it’s the ascii for ‘d’. (view post) |

"Teach Yourself Binary in 1100100 Hours"Umm…
1100100 in binary = 0*2^0 + 0*2^1+ 1*2^2 + 0*2^3 + 0*2^4 +1*2^5 + 1*2^6 = 0 + 0 + 4 + 0 + 0 + 32 + 64 = 4 + 32 +64 = 100
So 1100100 in binary is 100 in decimal. (view post) |

Clbum Balance at the Level Cap: How much do we really care?KindFearlessLeader Posted:
Yeah, I mostly moved avtr out of the top tier because now it, quite frankly, isn’t very good. You mostly use it (along with a bevvy of other low refresh skills) to give you time while ipz, 404, and recipe refresh.
Evil Trout Posted:
Hopefully this will be heavily dependent on clbum, since I can only use ipz and recipe (my only 200 power+ attacks) every 6 and 8 turns, respectively. Log in to see images! (view post) |

I understand this is going to work like forumbuildr, in that the people participating in it get to decide all of the flavor-bits (what it’s called, the description, what image it uses, probably even what type of item it is) but CZ will just set the stats on the item after voting is over, like they do for forumbuildr forums.
What’s to keep people from making a forum where all the .moar files they want drop frequently? Well, people don’t have any control over what moars drop in a buildr forum. (view post) |

I’m not suggesting anything, I’m just trying to get a dialogue going. It’s simply an observation that of the four regular clbumes, one of them is significantly better than the other three when you’re talking high level characters with good equipment. It’s entirely possible that this is fine, and we just don’t care that one clbum is “the best” since there’s always going to be something that’s the best. It’s entirely possible that we decide that trolls are fine, and other clbumes just need to be brought up to their levels, and it’s entirely possible that we decide that trolls are too good and need to be brought back to the pack a little bit. I have no dog in this fight.
I do, however, think that political flamebait having an attack of 350, a cost of 8 DB, and a refresh of 1 is sort of our of line with other clbumes “best attacks”: Everybody hurts has an attack of 220, a refresh of 1, and a cost of 15 tears; Fetish Pics has an attack of 225, a refresh of 1, and a cost of 15 sexiness; ipz has has an attack of 200-210, a refresh of 6(!), and a cost of 7 PP. Since all these clbumes have roughly the same offense for level capped characters, and we recently the clbumes because some were doing too much damage, it’s entirely possible that we didn’t exactly balance them correctly.
I mean, ET obviously cared enough about clbum balance at one point to take some data, and do some tinkering, in an attempt to make things “better” according to what his standards were. There’s no guarantee (in fact, it’s far from probable) that the system he set up once was perfect. (view post) |

Heh, they should put in a disclaimer. This is my first (and only) account, and I basically chose it because it was the only one that really fit with my personality. Being intelligent, shy, stoic, and nice to people basically ruled out permanoobs, cam****s, emos, and trolls in that order, at least if I had any interest in RPing in a manner that was at all comfortable.
Realistically though, it’s not that hard when you’re level capped with good equipment. I do 4 untimed 5 job point jobs a day (for about 65k ), spend about 20k on repairs, get about 150k in deliveries, and I never run out of PP (I have 340) except that I have to be careful not to spam avtr in dykea or engrish (since man, is that a PP hungry attack, for really very little benefit.) I’m not sure if Hackers are really underpowered, at least from a “I’m level capped, and have leet swag” perspective. I can pwn any forum out there without using consumables (though I can speedrun very few, I almost failed 74 seconds at 9 threads on Suburban earlier). The problem, if anything, with Hackers is that they tend to be tedious, and underscintillating (if that’s a word) at high levels. Due to long cycle attacks, I end up with something ridiculous like using 8 different attacks (avtr, ipz, recipe, 404, poetry, flipr, bg2, and fnt) when pwning engrish lessons because PP is in such limited quantities that you can’t afford to spam avtr (which really isn’t that good anyway).
In terms of “fixing clbumes” Hackers really just need to be thrown something interesting, other than “really high luck”. I mean, increasingly with forumbuildr, forums are going in where the effects of background changing results don’t even show up because they have a solid color in front of the background. That’s just a slap in the face Log in to see images! It would be at least nice if I could see the results of my woefully underpowered attacks, but that’s neither here nor there.
But again, how much do we really care? Everybody (except challenge clbumes) at sufficiently high level, with sufficiently good gear and build, can pwn anything without using consumables. Only one clbum can really speedrun effectively, but that’s only really an issue (as Scully pointed out) for Dom and for Job grinding (and Hackers are actually good at job grinding), so that’s not terribly important… then again, when you’re sitting there at level 35, what else is there to do other than grind for peens and play dom? Interestingly enough, as a hacker (and thus one gifted with about 48 more points of luck than anybody else), I almost always get at least 4 untimed 5 JP jobs at different forums every day. So in terms of “grinding for that 1800 JP peen” (I’m at 1040, slowly grinding away at 20/day, 140/week), Hackers and Trolls seem to have an advantage over Camgirls, Emos, and the Challenge clbumes; immense luck being the only real advantage Hackers have over other clbumes. Clbum Balance at the Level Cap: How much do we really care?Disclaimer: Okay, I’m going to try my best to not make this something that belongs in Whiny ****es, as no clbum is really underpowered. Any of the non-challenge clbumes with a good build and good equipment can pwn any forum at level 35 without consumables, so nothing is really too weak.
A while back, ET engaged in a project where he rebalanced the clbumes by taking data in terms of figuring out how much damage each clbum is doing and trying to get everybody around the same benchmark. So some attacks got made better and others got made worse. A few months have pbumed, and it may well be time to take a look at where things stand.
After talking to a number of people, I’ve pretty much reached the conclusion that the challenge clbumes are appropriately challenge-y; emos, camwhores, and hackers are all about equally good; while trolls are just way, way ahead of everybody else. One thing that happened in the meantime between “the rebalance” and “now” was, I believe, the fact that Pink Floyd became fairly readily available to anybody (since it started dropping in HOFF, was widely farmed, and everybody who extracts one is left at 49/50, so they can farm up more copies to sell in Kyoubai easily). The +30 offense granted by Pink Floyd is a considerable amount of offense, and really opens up a lot of offense for clbumes who are intended to be offense-light.
To illustrate this, let me just share an anecdote about a friend of mine and myself. He’s a level 35 troll specced for offense, and I’m a level 35 hacker specced for offense. We both have pretty much all of the high equipment you’d want (Kidney/4 Beast0rs, Earbleeders, Pink Floyd, ****.milf/Ripro, Notorious, etc.) I have 178 offense, and he has 150. With my most powerful attacks, (ipz and Recipe) I do around 3500 damage, my attacks have a high refresh pool, and my secondary stats are limited. By contrast, with flamebait and shock, he does about 6200 damage with effects with virtually no refresh time, which drain a small amount of douchebaggery from an almost limitless pool. Because the plural of “anecdote” is “data”, if you look at the speed run boards for the high level forums you’ll notice that they tend to be full of trolls. Sometimes, trolls who get those spots without really trying (Just hitting 1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2 until it’s over).
So it’s pretty clear to me that Trolls have a significant edge, this may be because: 1) They have really powerful attacks (350 and 220). 2) They have as much offense as anybody else when you pile on the good equipment. 3) Their powerful attacks have really no refresh time. 4) Their secondary stat reservoirs are almost limitless.
Now the questions I have for you, dear Flamebaters is “Is this a problem?” Do trolls need nerfing? Do other clbumes need boosting? Do we really care at all if things aren’t balanced for people who are at the level cap and have everything they could ever want for?
Honestly, I don’t know. The game is certainly easy enough for me, being a non-troll, but speed running is significantly harder for me, and I spend more on repairs, etc. I’d really like to hear the opinion of Evil Trout or other CZ folks, and possibly it would be interesting to hear the results if ET used that same data gathering utility that he used for the last rebalance to see how things stand now that so many high level accounts have really good equipment now. At the same time, I wouldn’t be surprised if things were just left the way they were with trolls far and away the best clbum, because (at least according to the Wiki) ET is an admitted troll IRL, so it’s understandable if he wants to Mary Sue it up a little bit Log in to see images!.
But do we really care about clbum balance at all? Or if we do, do we care about it for people who are at the level cap and want for nothing? Nothing really seems *bad* per se right now, things just seem asymmetric, and that’s that other company that does a web rpg… (view post) |
