. . . At home either Pac-Man or Pitfall on Atari.

I put my name on a waitlist for Atari Pac-Man, it may well have been the first video game waitlist ever. The day it came out (March ‘82) I had a tremendous migraine, but had to start playing it anyway. It seemed pretty cool that first day, despite how bad it was in comparison to the arcade and later versions.

You know I was about to say Super Mario Bros or Burger Time (it was at Sandwich shop my sister worked at), but I just remembered I had an old Atari before I had a Nintendo. So it was either 1 of the 31 variations of pong or blackjack.

Was going to say Space Invaders, but I think before that I played Atari Football (if anyone remembers, it had the black and white X’s and O’s that you controlled with a big trackball)

This game was actually really awesome. I’d forgotten about that crazy skin burning track ball.

Trying to create drama to drum up the ratings by any means necessary!

Pong. On my TV set (actually my parents’ set, I was too young to own one). Which only got about 13 channels, and didn’t have a remote. You had to stand up and turn dials to change stations or volume.

Gasp! That’s…A LIE! Changing channels/volume without a remote is witchcraft!

That’s nothing Banhammer, I had the same except with only 3 channels – and 1 of those was French!

Three channels, the TV was black & white (for the kiddies that means even colour programs were displayed in monochrome, and not just those art films) We were late adopter when it came this new fangled colour television thing.

The first game I played was Space Invaders on a friends Atari 2600. In the arcade, it was Scramble. Tunnel navigation was very scary.

This was the first game I owned

Okay, how about this, if you wanted to watch a cartoon (I don’t think we knew the word “animation”), you had to wait till Saturday morning. Oh also, if you wanted to send someone far away a message, you had to buy something called a “stamp”, and it would take like a week to get a reply.

We used to dial our phones. Do kids these days even know why the term is “dial”?

The were on cords, too. You couldn’t walk far from them and continue talking to someone. And if you called and they were busy, there was no such thing as “call waiting”. You could also prank call people because they had no idea who was calling them — no caller ID.

We’re way off topic now, though. If we want to continue this discussion of our younger years, let’s move it to Ayn Rands. (How I wish the forum had a “split thread” function!)
