A Small Tutorial and Essay on Trolling____ Posted:
It can be somewhat overt, if you focus on the little nuances and details into making the troll seem legit; I’ve gotten people to believe the most ridiculous things. It’s fun trying to see what you can get away with among the infestation that is the internet. (view post) |

Dear BEAT WOMENLike, one time I went into a leftist IRC channel and started complaining about all the operators being white, which caused all the brownskins to get out of the channel and form their own.

A Small Tutorial and Essay on TrollingThere’s also persona trolling: I’ve often adopted fake personalities and use them to obtain responses through absurdity. I once had a fake christian fundamentalist write a blog entry about running over a cat to prove to his emotionally undeveloped son that animals don’t go to heaven. It generated a few pages of comments from angry women with cats as their avatar.
Then there was my S&M clown who trolled vampirefreaks by trying to get people to join his “kinky clown circus.” That one got banned quickly, lol. (view post) |

Something AwfulAntiRules187 Posted:
I lurk occasionally since there are sometimes threads that are interesting, however, from what I hear SA from 2002 or so was much more biting than what it is now.
The site just ****es me off a lot because the way lowtax tries to get $10 for a forum account out of people, and had the rules so ridiculously harsh that it’s clearly a way of generating revenue. (view post) |

Something AwfulI’m sure most of us encountered this website, so we should all have an opinion of it; it has generated a few memes and has very active boards, in addition to being one of the sites you can list as liking on your profile here at forumwarz.
However, many, including me, find the front page extremely very special and the humor patehtic. Howevwer, what interests me more is the way that Lowtax does business regarding his forums; it’s no secret that lowtax and his sycophantic group of moderators will ban people for the slightest reasons simply as a means to generate revenues by people rebuying forum accounts.
Some of the things people get banned for: * Posting while drunk, even if the post is reasonable and well written. * Saying you hate the front page articles on another forum. This has netted my brother a perma-ban from the site (I was smart enough not to waste my money) * Making tongue-in-cheek racist comments (*cough ozma cough*) * Not being a communist on DnD, however, nowadays I don’t think this is a problem because McCaine the gay bondage homo communist was demodded * Disagreeing with the moderators.
I’m sure I’m missing many more petty things people have gotten banned for, but my question is: what is your opinion of something awful, and how do you view the way they moderate their forums? People with first hand experiences with very special bans or former Sbum members are encouraged to respond.
(I’m drunk right now and I would’ve gotten banned for this post for 3 different reasons had this been posted on SA, so that’s a funny anecdote.) (view post) |
