I wish for the ability, at will, to enter into and out of video games, books, movies, and even scenes from paintings and other media regardless of format as either myself or as one of the characters, at my own discretion. Once there, I would have the ability to do anything I wanted, unhindered by the rules of gameplay or the plot. Sometimes I think that it would be fun to enter a first person shooter, trash the place, and then return to society as my sweet, normal self without anyone having a clue and without any real damage being done in the real world. Really, that’s why we all play first person games and watch action movies, right? I could use postcards or even pictures from Wikipedia to travel anywhere in the world, visit anyone I wanted to see, spend cash that I acquired in online games, and return to my own home and family that night. I could travel through time in the same way. And need I mention romance movies? (Guys: you could enter porn flicks with this power! You all know you want that!) Log in to see images!
I wish that my actions in these media outlets would be entirely without physical consequence to me in real life. Let’s face it: it would not be fun to return from Doom 3 full of broken bones and covered in claw marks, or come back from World Of Warcraft with a sword stuck through me. If I die in a video game, book, or movie, I simply am returned to my previous state, standing in front of my computer, book, or TV, unscathed as though nothing had ever happened.
For my third wish, I would like very much to bring back items from the video games and the other media sources that I would visit to real life, and have them work. Whether it’s a car from a James Bond movie, a Babel Fish from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, or a magic ring or sword from the Diablo series, I want them in real life in all of their functional glory! Not only could I have awesome stuff from games and stories in real life, but my ability to transport things between video games and stories would make me virtually invincible in them.
