Well, if you’re over 17, then you don’t have to tell them ****. You’re an adult. However, you can leave them a note, and then they would have no grounds to send anyone anywhere.

Trust me…I’ve handled the police before.

But you’re right. Just a phone call should be enough, if you’re old enough.
