I’m starting off by apologizing for being kind of male reproductive organish with my previous posts. I TRY not to act like a fanboy, but I’ve had to argue this **** a million times, so I get a bit worked up.

First off, I never said that “Nothing was wrong with them”. That implies that perfect games exist. They don’t. None of the games that either of us, or that have ever been made, are perfect.
So I was bored enough to go to Metacritic and look this stuff up. **** insomnia btw. I normally don’t care about scores, (The lowest scoring game in my list is one of my favorites this gen) but eh, I suppose it’s the only argument that can be made here. So for the purpose of this exercise, we’ll consider any score about 70 to be “good”. I’m bumuming that’s agreeable.
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles (I’m bumuming you meant Umbrella Chronicles): 75 Medal of Honor Heroes 2: 73 Scarface The World is Yours: 71 Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn: 78 Mortal Kombat Armageddon: 71 Brothers in Arms Double Time: 45 Far Cry Vengeance: 38 No More Heroes: 83
The two highest scoring games are in the high 70’s and low 80’s (Fire Emblem and No More Heroes respectively). Two scored what can only be described as “****”, Far Cry and Brothers in Arms. Those are the ones I was saying were “bottom of the barrel”. The rest were in the mid to low 70’s. Not very amazing score range there. If we go ahead and add in Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros., Metroid Prime, and LoZ, we get…
Mario Galaxy: 97 (Still don’t ****ing understand that, but *Shrugs*) Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess: 95 (Gamecube version got a 96 lol) Super Smash Bros. Brawl: 93 Metroid Prime 3: 90
Better by quite a bit. All in the 90’s. Now if we subtract the two games with the horrible scores, we get 10 good hardcore games for the Wii.
Now let’s look at the games I listed…
COD4: 94 Fallout 3: 91 MGS4: 94 bumbumin’s Creed: 80 Valkyria Chronicles: 87 Armored Core 4: 65 Armored Core For Answer: 62 Resistance: 86 Resistance 2: 87 Bioshock: 94 Disgaea 3: 78 Uncharted: 88 Soul Calibur IV: 85 Oblivion: 84 DMC4: 84 Ratchet & Clank: 89 Prince of Persia: 84 GTA4: 98 Dead Space: 88 Condemned 2: 82 Killzone 2: 93 (Just found out that it has a review score now Log in to see images!)
Now some of those scores will show you why I really don’t trust review scores. The two Armored Core games being in the 60’s is a ****ing shame, and Valkyria Chronicles should be 156009908090809708097980793543. But I’ll accept it, even if I don’t like it. So taking that, six games are in the 90’s, one is in the 70’s, two are in the 60’s, and the remaining 12 are in the 80’s.
So if we go ahead and subtract the two AC games (Though I’m incredibly loathe to do it), we get 19 games.
Now add in the fact that on this page there’s practically nothing worth mentioning, and it’s easy to see that the Wii has a serious shortage on worthwhile hardcore games.

Again, this thread isn’t about the business aspect. I admit that they’re making money, that they’re out to make money, and that they have no reason to make hardcore games when they’re making money otherwise. But that’s not what we’re talking about, and I really don’t see why people always bring it up.

First off, that link is about EA, not every gaming company ever. And EA is notorious for making **** games. The only worthwhile thing they’ve done in years is Dead Space, and that was only good because everyone but the small group who pitched it kept their hands off of the title. I really can’t WAIT at ALL to see what gimmicky “innovative” waggle bull**** NFL games they make. I imagine that it’ll come with a special strap to connect the Wiimote to your foot for kicking field goals, and that said strap will constantly break, causing the Wiimote to smash a few hundred more TV’s. And I also suspect that the hit detection on said goal-kicking will be horrible and usually result in the ball moving about five feet or half a mile to the side of the goal.
And for Nintendo, a company that’s practically synonymous with good first-party hardcore games, that has always furnished its console with huge amounts of epicness, to simply half-bum up a sequel to all their primary IP’s then start pumping out “Wii *Insert action here*” games and progressively worse bastardizations of the Mario franchise? It’s sickening.
Nintendo has NEVER had a lot of good third-party titles. They’ve ALWAYS made quality first-party games. But not anymore it would seem. I’m just hoping they decide to actually put some work into a non-waggle**** Legend of Zelda game some time soon, because that’s the only hope I really have left for the Wii.
EDIT: Also, they let Sega make Mario $ Sonic Olympics. ‘Nuff said. Lord Shplane edited this message on 02/06/2009 4:22AM |
