Amaranthus retroflexus is a species of flowering plant. It goes by common names such as Red-root Amaranth, Redroot Pigweed, Common Amaranth.
Amaranth may be seen by many as a weed, however, in the organic garden it is useful as a soil aerator. The leaves can be eaten and are said to taste like spinach. It has toxic properties concerning domestic animals, such cattle and porcine.
Yeah… um… this is not the amaranth I have chosen as my namesake.

[m]Amaranthus caudatus[/m], commonly known as “love-lies-bleeding” is commonly used in North America as an ornamental. Many parts of the plants, including the leaves and seeds, are edible, and are frequently used as a source of food in India and South America — where it is the most important Andean species of Amaranthus, known as Kiwicha. The red color of the inflorescences is due to a high content of betacyanins, which are important dye pigments.
I chose this plant as my namesake because “love-lies-bleeding” was my nickname in my first year of college when I was part of the drama cl—- Oh, for ****’s sake, why am I telling you this?
But why- why have you… defaced my property like this? I have never done anything to you.
