I recommend you check out Shpongle. All their albums (“Are You Shpongled?”, “Tales of the Inexpressible”, “Nothing Lasts… But Nothing Is Lost” ) are masterpieces and will simply blow your mind away. CuteFoxy edited this message on 05/20/2008 10:42AM |

Airbase is my absolute favorite trance artist, and Tiesto is, of course, the most famous trance DJ alive, look into albums by those two. You’d probably like Tub Ring and Behold the Arctopus, check those guys out as well.
You’ve probably heard some Cobra Starship; if you’ve only heard one or two songs and didn’t like them, you should check out some of their other stuff, they’re a pretty “up-and-down” band.
Buckethead and Joe Satriani are two solo guitarists who kind of fit your description, and they each have huge catalogs. You can also hear Buckethead in Les Claypool’s project Colonel Claypool’s Bucket of Bernie Brains.
Also, any of Mike Patton’s projects; the guy is a musical genius. His bands include Peeping Tom, Tomahawk, Fantomas, Faith No More, and Mr. Bungle, among any that I may be forgetting. |

13 Tales from Urban Bohemia by the Dandy Warhols
Electric Version by the New Pornographers (also get twin cinema maybe),
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Gimme Fiction, Kill the Moonlight, and Girls Can Tell – all by Spoon
Alive 2007 by Daft Punk and Cross by Justice (I don’t care if you hate house music this is the best of the best)
The Phenomenauts and The Aquabats are both really good if you like rockabilly kind of stuff that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
The Cardiacs are a really weird band from your part of the world that bop introduced me too, I don’t listen to them much anymore but their stuff is solid
The Pixies are pretty good, get Doolittle for sure.
REM is pretty good but they’re too “mainstream” for a lot of people.
The Avett Brothers are technically bluegrbum/alt country but make no mistake, they’ve got some amazing stuff. The only album I have by them is emotionalism, but they have some other good ones too.
This Will Destroy You is a really quiet, instrumental post-rock band that’s amazing to play in the background when you’re either high or (in my case) exhausted.
If you can find any albums by the Billy Nayer Show, download them and put them on rapidshare for me. I can never find any of their stuff.

Damn, I do love Goldfrapp. A lot of bands go to hell when they get some attention, but they keep turning out awesome albums with wonderfully smutty sounding songs.
I don’t have much to suggest to match what you’re looking for, I’m actually going to go hunt down some of the things listed here. Log in to see images!
I do love Garbage. That could be because I’m a ****ing **** though. Log in to see images! Their first album ‘Garbage’ and the more recent ‘Beautiful Garbage’ are favorites.
Other interesting things, not so dance vibey though. Doolittle – Pixies 69 Love Songs – Magnetic Fields Rock ‘n Roll Animal – Lou Reed (kinda ****ty vocals, outrageous guitar) Earthling – David Bowie
As long as you have the free access though, what about adding some clbumic album staples? Things that over the years were the best of their time? It can be interesting to go through albums from one decade to the next and listen to the way things progress. A lot of the time you can hear who was a fan of someone else from 10 or 20 years earlier. |

Some obvious picks: If you like Portishead, you might be into Morcheeba, although maybe you’ve already played them out. I’m a big fan of Hooverphonic on the “smooth music” front. Zero 7 and DJ Shadow are essential trip-hop.
Indietronica: I’d get everything by Ladytron, beautiful post-industrial dark synths. Fischerspooner’s Odyssey is great whiteboy dancerock. Soulwax makes awesome, filthy beats, if you can find them. The Faint is a bit gay but always good. Death From Above 1979 rocks.
Upbeat indie rock: The Subways, Hot Hot Heat, Tangiers, Lovemakers, Tokyo Police Club.
For more album-oriented/noisy stuff, try anything by …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Blonde Redhead, JJ72, Menomena.
Keep on rocking. And support your local artists.
