Yes.
Give Quake a shot too, when you’re done. |

I’d say pbum on Quake, it’s not a very good game and was only popular back in the day because of “zomg 3D”. Quake and to a greater extent Hexen II are the two main reasons I hadn’t played a FPS until I bought TF2 late last year.
I would recommend trying out Heretic and/or Hexen though. |

Both lovely games.
Try Red Faction too. I wonder if you can find it though. |

Wait. You say Quake is not a very good game, but you have bought TF2 recently? You should be grateful that Quake existed, because if it didn’t, Team Fortress wouldn’t either. |

on a lighter note, i like playing the original dooms in a source port like zdoom to get modern controls going, and aiming.
you dont need mouselook at all, but it’s pretty cool and i like looking around the levels. |

****, I still remember what idspispopd means and how to open most secrets. Episode 4, lvl 1 had a very unique secret area unlike all others – it was activated by pressing on the torch, which wasn’t highlighted on the map even with idbeholda. I uncovered it by luck – accidentally pressed space bumon in the right place in the right time. |

Just for the record, If you guys are playing vanilla Doom or Quake off of Steam, the music isn’t playing at its highest quality. In fact, Quake is missing all of its music. I don’t think there’s a way to play Steam Doom with CD quality audio without using a source port, but floating around the Steam forums there’s a copy of the Quake soundtrack that you can burn to disc/mount so the original game plays the music. Welcome! Im kinda a Doom person myself, just figured nobody cared Log in to see images!
Interestingly enough, A well known group of doom mappers/modders released a mod for GZDoom (a for more advanced, but free port) today, after six years of development! It is called Stronghold.
But if you want to stick to more basic, yet fun stuff (bumuming you have Doom 2 along with Doom 1) I strongly recommend these .wad (map packs pretty much) files.
NOTE: Some may require slightly advanced ports, such as PrBoom or the ZDoom
First and foremost if for some reason you dont have doom 2, GET THAT FIRST! then get Plutonia, which is another commercial one, that comes around whenever doom goes on sale.
Great, but Free ones that require doom 2 include
Alien Vendetta (av.wad) Memento Mori 1 & 2 (mm.wad and mm2.wad respectively) The Community Chest series (cchest cchest2 and cchest3) I will actually have a map or two in cchest4 The Rebirth (rebirth1.wad) Whispers of Satan (wos.wad)
If you are feeling a little ballsy try out Hell Revealed 1 and 2 Kama Sutra (ksutra.wad) Deus Vult 2 (The Queen Mother of Doom projects, one of the best and most difficult i’ve seen in 15 years of playing the damn game, Caution: this needs a really advanced port, but is worth it) |
