It’s about a woman finding a man, Edward, secluded in a castle with scissors for hands. She takes him home and Edward falls in love with the woman’s daughter. Edward attempts to fit in with the people around him, turning out to be quite the hairstylist, while the girls boyfriend tricks him into getting arrested. Edward uses his hands to make snow for the girl, who had always wished to see it, and they finally are together.

Through various flashbacks we learn that Edward is really a robot created by the man who used to live in the castle, who always wanted a son.

The epilogue reveals that the old women who was telling the story is the girl, and that Edward is back up in the castle, making snow for all the citizens of the town.

It’s about the change of time, from the 50s to the 70s. The town represents the 50s, every house a home with an average family, the ****ty colored houses, the mailboxes, it’s so safe you let your kids run around wherever. It shows the range of attitudes at the time, including the parents who are all oblivious to everything and too stupid to accept that some things are different, the teenagers who are starting to deviate from their parents, the war age generation, and the old people who think that their war puts the second world war in its place a thousand times over. Suddenly comes the 60s, represented by Edward. Edward is a man made creation (think, drugs) that suddenly became very popular. Suddenly the baby boomers’ parents are attracted to it, they are interested, and scared. The 60s and the drug revolution changed a lot of things, as did the sexual freedom that was typical of the time. Eventually, towards the end of the decade, people were afraid of it, and tried to remove it from society. But the boomer generation kept it alive, and wanted more of it, remarking on the good times, and their children and grandchildren still showed interest in the end.

It’s warning us all about the dangers of door-to-door avon sales, and how those avon ladies are the embodiment of evil, corrupting otherwise innocent scissor-handed youths. Don’t let these succubi into your homes, or you will have to spend all eternity pining for Winona Ryder. THEY WILL MAKE YOU LOVE WINONA RYDER!!
