Copy and pasting select sentences DIRECTLY from the site is plagiarism in my book.

Ok guys, I’ma make a new online game called “Forum Warz”(See? There is a space separating the two words it MUST be different eh?)

Here’s the description:

“Forum warz is a parody role-playing game that takes place on the Internet. In fact, Forum warz is the Internet…in game form. bumume the role of one of five Internet personas: Camwhore, Troll, Hacker, Permanoob or Emo Kid, each with their own special attacks, abilities and personalities. Play in story mode and pwn your way through a dense world of mystery, intrigue and Internet idiocy. Or test your skillz against others in various player-versus-player challenges.”

I mean, it isn’t a EXACT copy of the game Forumwarz so it’s a parody right?

If it’d help, I’d be happy to write a less lazy description… keep the idea but excise the copied part.

e.g. “The IEDAB is a scientific foundation, created to conduct cutting edge research into the field of the destruction of the Earth; determining and categorising the methods by which the Earth may be destroyed. It is also tasked with closely observing the current state of the Earth and tracking the frequency with which it is destroyed.”

Ok, so swap back in some of the original wording. I was aiming to not use any of the first one, but if a hybrid is better than whatever…

Just trying to help resolve this, I bumume that’s the preferred response (as opposed to getting ****y or loudly pointing out the rampant copyright abuse that we know and love as Itembuildr image subs)

I came across the HTDTE page, and the rest of the guy’s website, and found it freaking hilarious. I didn’t really expect the sub to win to be honest, so I wasn’t expecting this to come up. If it offends you that I saw something awesome and wanted to maybe make some buildr jokes about it then… well I don’t even know what recourse there is at this point. My sincerest apologies if I’ve ****ed off the plagiarism police.

I haven’t gotten around to submitting anything yet (end time is 2am here, I’m busy all morning and most of the afternoon… could be this evening before I’ve got any time to make with the funny). I don’t know how people are so quick, but I was watching the scores last night – mine was in a very close 2nd/tied for first (at one point in a 3-way tie for first) for a fair while before the end, and took the lead with a couple hours to go. Anyone obsessively watching buildr to get their subs in quickly would have had some time to at least realise that Illuminati Job Board wasn’t a sure thing and start thinking.

I’m surprised at how man-man handle this, which is pretty well. And yes, the HTDTE page is hilarious. Still, it doesn’t mean someone can submit that idea as his own, let alone win it.

As for suspiciously quick submissions, if those aren’t yours (and I believe the admins can verify that,) then fine. Those logos are low quality ones which can be patched up within 30 minutes or less anyway. I’m sorry for directing my suspicion of foul play at you. After ghax’s one-man alt abuse, it’s easy to believe only one person is responsible for all the wrong things that happen.

Now if we’re going to fix this, apart from changing the description, the forum name, International Earth Destruction Advisory Board, must be changed as well. Because that too, was written by Mr.Sam Hughes. Even the word “Geocide” was thought up by him.

I offer another solution, that is contacting Mr.Hughes himself, asking if he’s okay for ForumWarz to expand upon his joke. Who knows? This could benefit both parties involved. It won’t hurt to try, will it?

Maybe man-man is Sam Hughes, ever thought of that?

Yes it’s plagirism, and that’s terrible, but there’s no need to make a huge ****ing deal of it.

There’s been worse forum ideas than this one and even ones that have won with a more controversial way than plagiarism.

Making a thread is making a huge deal of it? Oh ****, we are all making a huge deal over Evil Trout/Wechall/incit/Forumwarz everytime we post about it.

It does seem like a pretty funny site that it is possible that people have read before.

All of which were copied into Forumwarz directly enough for the comparative image search provided by the good folks at tineye.com to find the original image. Maybe not always the original source, but it shows they’ve been copied from somewhere.

Blatant and uncredited copying from anywhere and everywhere is the de facto standard for user generated content on this site, we all know that. I know that doesn’t make it any more valid, but I do feel like I’m having a lot more hostility directed at me for this than is really proportional for what I’ve actually done, especially when compared to the complete lack of care about all of the image subs above.

Um, okay other people did **** also. But you word for word copied from another site. Putting up a bunch of other examples does not make it right. Taking an image and working it into your logo, modifying it, and changing it is not nearly as bad as taking another person’s ideas word for word and pbuming it off as your own.

Also items are cited most of the time, information is given that they are not your own. You did nothing of the sort.
