Since you only get 4 forum visits a day, and the News/RSS updates whenever you pwn a forum, perhaps a news update when a player gets trashed in a forum should be noted too. That way we can see what forums our friends are getting pwned in, maybe even as a way to plan strategy, or to just laugh at your friends (and enemies) when they get trashed.

I like this idea a lot too, but I have wondered about spoilers. Wouldn’t some players consider it a spoiler to see upcoming forums they haven’t reached yet in public profiles?

I guess it depends on how spoilery the forum is. If it’s a generic forum like the dental one or whatever, the names of those forums don’t seem all that spoilery, but if there is some government forum you hack later that ties into the plot, then the news message could have a message instead not specify what forum it was in, giving a more generic message insted.

I was thinking about this over lunch and I think I have a solution (providing it’s not too hard to implement when I get down to it). It can show the forum name if you have the bookmark to it. Otherwise it’ll show a generic message or something like “Killed in a Forum you didn’t even know existed”

I had thought about that, but how would it work when it constructs the message for the RSS feed, then?

Good point. Hmmm, will have to give it some thought.

Is it possible to keep the Flamebate forums open while the rest of the site goes down for upgrading, or is it too integrated to make that feasable?

That sort of help sounds like it would be more appropriate in this part of the forum, if you’d like to start a clbum specific strategy thread, go right ahead.

Unfortunately not. One day this might be possible. Also, as the code gets more stable I probably won’t be doing upgrades every night Log in to see images!

We need some Second Life lampooning. Perhaps it could be used as a source of money, but with some sort of cost. It could have a chance of turning you into a furry, for instance.

Oh yeah and replace the “Annoying Gameplay Limit Reached” page with an in-character message about your bandwidth limit being reached and you can no longer browse forums, if you’re going to bother explaining it in the game you might as well follow through and keep the immersion going.

What about clbum-specific forums? I think it’d be helpful and funny to see each of the different groups start their own little insulated communities. I say helpful because then they could engage in discussions about best attacks, best drugs for the money, and so forth. This may be better for later on when there are more players and some are really far along.

There’s no reason why you guys can’t start your own thread with spoilers discussing strategy. In the future it may be worth having a clbum designated forum that is only accessible to that clbum (perhaps..) I’ll keep this on the feature list for future consideration.

How about a star-level next to each forum to display it’s difficulty rating? I saw the furry forum and thought it might be easy given that it required only 10 XSS, only to get stomped easily. Having to waste a turn to see the power of forums isn’t really fun when you only get 4 each day.
