I’m going to support TUBSWEETIE in this. My idea of abuse is where the moderator bans someone based on a personal slight, rather than objectively for slighting other people. It’s a staff member’s role to set an example for a community, and often people believe they can balance both being a member of a community and being an example of it – often, this isn’t the case.
Abuse of mod powers would usually serve as precedent for more abuse, but I feel given the nature of the forum (RP) and the warning beforehand, it wasn’t abuse of mod power so much as it was a deliberate prank. |

Did Chawin really deserve a permaban though? I’ve yet to see what he actually did that was so very wrong. From here, it looks like it was pretty much entirely unjustified – he gets tempbanned for this cheese thing, complains about it here, then gets perma’d by the same mod he was complaining against. Add in the comments about “waiting for a reason” and it looks a lot like abuse of mod powers.
On the other hand, bumuming for a moment that you aren’t a vindictive bumhole and/or an abusive drunk, there must be something I’m not seeing. If there’s additional reasoning behind the ban than the post quoted as the ban reason, then I’d like to see it so that I can know I’m not liable to get booted out whenever I have something to complain about.
That kind of thing’s important to me… I don’t like the idea of getting kicked out of places so if that seemed likely I’d probably leave before anyone had that chance. man-man edited this message on 09/02/2009 12:42AM |

Personally, I think Tubs is introuduceing his own personal opinion for this ban. He’s taking a rule that Chawin may of broke, then added his own dislike of Chawin to find a way to permaban him. Hell, even Tubs has stated he doesn’t like me and found a reason to ban me because I was playing a long with a new rule. Hell, even another mod doesn’t know what I did to be banned.
But this is just the opinion of 1 player. Tons others will rush and say “Well bla bla up to the mods to decide what bannable and isn’t bla bla” and tubs will find a excuse to save his bum. I feel that Chawin’s perma is another symptom of poor moderation and cherry picking. This may not be a democracy, but you can only carry that arguement so far before it gets old. |
