Also I was implying that I would have sent an invite to spanks to fail, but I wouldn’t have because I would have deleted the klan eventually.
In any case, one of the defining characteristics of this new world is Kagutsuchi. Kagutsuchi is the moon that exists in the dead center of the Vortex World, constantly emitting pulses of light. Its function is pretty much the same as that of the moon in previous SMT games. It goes through 8 separate phases, but instead of dictating the shape of the moon, the phases indicate the light output of Kagutsuchi within its pulses. It goes from Full (8/8) at the apex of its pulse when it is giving out the most light, to Silent (0/8) when it’s not giving out any light at all. There are no waxing and waning phases like earlier SMT games, but for all intents and purposes Full is like the Full Moon of earlier games, and Silent is like the New Moon of earlier games. As you move around, the phase of Kagutsuchi slowly changes from 0/8 to 8/8 and back again. Kagutsuchi will NOT change phase if you sit still—you must move in order for it to change. Also, the speed at which it changes phase varies depending on where you are—it changes phase much more quickly on the overhead map (since you’re traveling a greater distance)
Moon phase has several effects on gameplay. First and foremost is its effect on combat. The brighter the moon, the more ancy the demons get. They will be more likely to respond to negotiations and less likely to attack during the darker moon phases, and more rough and violent during the higher phases. During a Full Moon, the excessive light from Kagutsuchi more or less drives them nuts and they act drunk. In addition, the brighter the moon, the tougher the demons will be. They will do more damage and take less during the brighter phases, though the difference is very slight. You can really feel the difference though during some boss battles, for example. Some demons will act differently in the way they conduct combat during different moon phases as well.
Second, moon phases have a huge influence on Magic Boxes. There are two types of treasure chests in SMT3—regular treasure boxes, which look like hovering red cubes, and Magic Boxes, which look like small chests on the ground. The content of Magic Boxes varies by the moon phase. It can either contain a good treasure, or a lousy treasure of a Maseki or two. The closer the moon phase is to Full, the better the chance you will get the treasure instead of a Maseki. During a Full Kagutsuchi, the chance of you getting the treasure from a Magic Box will be 100%. During a New Kagutsuchi, the chance of you getting the treasure is 0%—in other words, it wil ALWAYS give you Maseki during a new moon.

Man, there’s a lot of going inside people and stuff as of late. Go forward into the main chamber, which is a long channel with some high ledges on the sides. Go down the channel first because there is an Exorcism Key at the end. Then climb around the higher ledges to where the Lockjaw is. You may need more speed to make some of the longer jumps, or you could use Power Springs in the channel to get higher up on the ledges. When the Lockjaw’s dead, go through and you’ll find the Dragon Orb tangled up in a bunch of gross stretchy stuff. Ignore it and the fact that this looks just like the altar room in Hana Valley, and go out the side door. You’ll come to a big room filled with some gross red blood or digestive fluid dripping from a disgusting ulcer in the ceiling. Soak the ulcer in the digestive fluid below repeatedly and the ulcer will bust and the whole room and the pbumage back to the Dragon Orb room will flood with digestive fluid. Sick. Lily Pad your way back to the altar room. Soak the gross stretchy stuff around the Dragon Orb in digestive fluid until it breaks. You’ll take the Dragon Orb, then suddenly nine Tube Foxes will rush into the room. Kill them and you’ll get the Fox Rods, which the Water Dragon had apparently taken and swallowed from the Sunken Ship. Without the Dragon Orb, however, the whole Dragon will start to collapse. Run back out to the entrance as fast as you can, watching the shadows on the ground so you don’t get any digestive fluid on you as it drops from the ceiling. Youíll get out just in time to see the Water Dragon fall to the floor of the ocean DEAD. Then, in spirit or something, King Wada will appear and say that he took the form of the Water Dragon in order to defeat the dark forces, and that he swallowed the Fox Rods to keep it away from the dark lord. When heís done, youíll be back at the Water Dragon garden.

While you’re still at Riovanes, you can do a bit of equipment upgrading (stick with the Aegis Shields, though; they’re good against magic). There’s also a number of propositions you can take in the various towns, but most of them aren’t worth the time they take (and you sometimes LOSE money on them), so don’t bother. Go up to the pbum near Lesalia. This is a routine battle against some Nanten Knights. Whip through here and continue on to Bervenia Free City. Before you enter the town, equip the Maintenance ability on everybody who was it, and give Arrow Guard to the people who don’t. Also, I strongly recommend you have a thief along. In Bervenia, you’ll encounter — and fight — Izlude’s sister Meliadoul, accompanied by some ninjas. Meliadoul will teleport away when you defeat her. Bervenia’s shops don’t have anything new, so move on to the Finath River. After beating that, you can finally get to Zeltennia Castle. Ramza will go to the church, where he’ll meet Delita again. Delita explains more of the church’s plan. Zalmo then shows up, and it’s fight time (did you really think you could go somewhere without one?). With Delita’s help, it’s pathetically easy (I told you the game was going to get easier, didn’t I?). After the battle, you’ll meet with Balmafula, then Delita will leave (bummer). Strangely, the shops *still* don’t have anything new. Restock your items (you’ll need lots of X-Potions), then go to the Bed Desert, south of Bervenia. Here you’ll encounter another Shrine Knight, Balk, in a tough battle. This is one the last difficult encounters of the game, as pretty soon you… well, you’ll see. After beating Balk (it’ll probably take you a few tries), go to the Bethla Garrison. You’ll have a choice as to whether to go to the south or north wall. Each is a different battle. I find that the south wall is easier. Whichever way you go, you’ll end up at the floodgate. Save your game in a different slot, then continue. You have a really cool battle in which you have to open the dam and flood the garrison. It’s good for raising JP. After blowing up the dam, you, Olan, and Balmafula will rescue Orlandu. ORLANDU THEN JOINS YOU! YAHOO!! If you just heard a giant sucking sound, it was all the challenge going down to Mexico (er, unless you live in Mexico, then it all went to Zimbabwe). Orlandu is ridiculously powerful, and once you have him, nobody in the game has a chance against you. He has all of Agrias’s, Gafgarion’s, and Meliadoul’s sword techniques, plus a full set of Crystal equipment and the Excalibur. He can also use every type of sword (katana, knight sword, etc.) To put it simply, he is hell on wheels. Delita then offs Prince Goltana and frames Cid (Orlandu). A cutscene pops up instructing you to go to Limberry and rescue Alma. A handy new path opens up between Bethla and Zirekile Falls. Go back up to Bervenia, because — get this — the stores actually have new equipment! It’s only a bit of armor, but, hey, at least it’s something! Keep the Golden Hairpin for your magic-users, though, as it raises MP quite a bit. In addition, Zeltennia has even more new equipment, and it’s a lot of good stuff! Will the wonders never cease? Be sure to stop in for an upgrade. At your next stop, Zarghidas Trade City, you’ll run into a familiar face… it’s Aerith! Buy a flower from her, then head into town (yup, there’s no fight). There’s a couple of propositions and yet more new equipment, which leads me to wonder why the first chunk of the chapter was completely dry. Square’s equipment designer must have called in sick that day or something. Before you leave, buy five Angel Rings (if you already have some, just buy however many you need to get five) or you will regret it. Pop on down to Germinas Peak, where you’ll have a run-in with some bandits. With Orlandu in your party, this battle is a breeze. After the battle (before you continue on), you may want to get into a random battle at Germinas Peak with the Move-Find Item ability equipped (make sure the character that has it has a low Brave). Save first, though. Move to the very top of the peak and you should find the Vanish Mantle, a mantle that makes you invisible… you might get a Potion instead, though, if you do, reset.
