I just played this hand.
Gamble-Bot 3000 Gamble-Bot 3000 10000 bet accepted! Your Hand: nine of hearts jack of spades I'm showing: jack of clubs Your Avatar markchd Stand. Gamble-Bot 3000 Gamble-Bot 3000 Dealing for myself... jack of clubs six of clubs ace of diamonds king of diamonds I BUSTED! You win 10000!
That is to say g-bot dealt himself J,6(hard 16); J,6,A(hard 17); J,6,A,K (27).
Does gamblebot just hit on any 17 containing an ace? (seems a likely way to try to code “hit on soft 17” in a hurry.) Is there a statistician that can help me use this tiny fraction of hands to my advantage? Should I bug report this hand? I don’t think gamblebot’s rules are posted anywhere, so he could just be playing a weird composition dependent strategy for dealers. I don’t see bingebot or trout as the type to work one out, though. |

Reasonably certain I’ve seen this happen too, so it’s not a one off thing. There was a post on the blog about hitting on soft 17’s or something ages ago, but I can’t be bothered to find it. Looks like a proper bug to me. |

Good way for gamblebot to cheat = hit as long as the player has a higher hand. God, that would suck.
Edit: Of course, that doesn’t happen. markchd edited this message on 11/09/2008 8:22AM |

Gamble-Bot 3000 10000 bet accepted! Your Hand: eight of spades seven of hearts I'm showing: six of hearts Stand. Gamble-Bot 3000 Dealing for myself... six of hearts ace of hearts king of spades two of hearts You lost 10000 You have 581393 Play again?
So basically, Gamblebot won with a hand of 17 when it drew the king just after the ace, but it drew another card anyway… (and still won)
I submitted bug reports about this aeons ago. Looks like it’s still not been fixed… meeeeeeeeee edited this message on 11/09/2008 10:35PM |

whyyyy would you bug report it? That’s not really a bug (he can play however he wants) and is actually advantageous to us. |

I bug reported it because it’s a bug. |

Dealer doesn’t hit on hard 17. In different variations dealer may or may not hit on soft 17. |

You are aware of the rules covering the “dealer” in blackjack right? Dealer hits on 16 or less, stays on 17 or more. “Soft” 17 (Ace-6) rules vary. Catt although edited this message on 11/10/2008 9:21AM |

Oh, dealer actually has to adhere to a strict algorithm in playing? If that’s the case disregard all my posts itt. No I ‘m not aware of any “dealer” rule, only blackjack I play is “Twenty-One”, with friends who don’t know how to play “Thirteen”, and there’s no dealer there. |

Same thing happened to me earlier. I figured it was a bug, but I couldn’t be arsed, especially seeing that the bug is likely to hurt the dealer more often than it helps. I’m glad there are people playing this game with more motivation and/or moral fiber than me. |

So does this actually lean the odds in the players favour? Or does the computer hit if he’s on hard 17 and you’re on 17 or more i.e. potentially stealing a win.
If it does give the player an advantage, and the bug is fixed can we have splitting, 5 card charlie, and surrendering introduced in its place to compensate? Log in to see images! meeeeeeeeee edited this message on 11/10/2008 1:56PM |

On first appearances it’s not really exploitable. The only time you know the dealer has an ace is when it’s his first card. The pattern so far seems to be when it’s the second (or third, or…?) card. meeeeeeeeee edited this message on 11/10/2008 2:15PM |
