Easy: don’t sell junk that you don’t need to sell. Store up Mary Magdalenes. To repair, sell a one-flezz item. |

That’s it. In other respects, exactly the same as the other minrepair bug – repair an item to 0.5% of its total repair costs. |

Fix: change the minimum % at which an item is considered not to be broken from 0% to 10%. Or perhaps different levels for different forums e.g. 2% for Denture Chat, 20% for Faux News, so new players are not penalised. |

A really easy way to fix the junk-hoarding version of this is to force characters to sell any available junk to meet the total repair costs. You know, sort of like how a bank takes away your **** when you can’t pay off a loan. You could also stop using the junk system altogether but I think it fits the theme of the game too well to do that.
As for hoarding consumables, that doesn’t even count as an exploit in my mind. It’s always been considered acceptible for noobs to buy what consumables and repairs they can when they’re broke, so it doesn’t clearly cirgreat timesvent any game rules. And it’s not very useful either; you’ll never have money for anything that suddenly comes up, so you have to sell the consumables you bought for big losses even at 6 Frugality. If someone wants to do that just so he can get the Cred E-Peen, then he can go ahead. Meanwhile, I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and end up getting that E-Peen eventually anyway. |

One difficulty with that is that junk items are supposedly going to be getting other uses in Ep 2, and it forces you to sell everything, not just keep some items for other strategic purposes. It would make sense to find a fix that doesn’t involve a forced sell, if for no other reason than it’d have to change for ep 2 anyway.
Also, are the items going to be sold automatically when you enter a forum with broken stuff equipped? I can see that being more of a headache than just a minimum effective repair % |

It doesn’t force you to sell everything. It just forces you to sell everything if you’re broke, hoarding items, and attempting to run forums with near-broken equipment.
A minimum effective repair % would fix nothing – it’s called “min repair” for a reason. |

The way min repair saves flezz, is by allowing you to enter a forum with an item which would be broken by 20%, but instead loses 1%. Hence, enforcing a higher % repaired would fix the problem. Setting that at 100% would lose us other strategic potential in other aspects of the game meeeeeeeeee edited this message on 07/25/2008 10:28PM |

You know items are broken at different rates, right? And so an item that would lose 50%? What about an item that would lose 100%? |

Was thinking specifically about the DML (which has a very high damage rate) but you’re right. If there’s a neat solution, it’s not been said yet.
There’s only really two items for which minrepair is truly effective. DML of course, and Harris Piltons, which can’t be effectively used otherwise. Possibly the Pruneserv, but that has a mid-high damage rate. Any other items, if they break quickly, are still cheap to repair to 100% meeeeeeeeee edited this message on 07/25/2008 10:34PM |

Really the problem isn’t so much minrepair which offers some advantages but is actually more related to the obscene power curve that the DML offers and the ridiculous advantage it provides vis-a-vis faux news.
As I see it you have three major ways of fixing the problem.
1)Alter the way damaged equipment works so that any bonuses the equipment provides go away even if the item breaks during the middle of combat. In order to make this workable you need to make it where people can change equipment choices during the middle of a combat. Based on the number of times I’ve accidentally left my piltons equipped this would be a useful function regardless.
2)Nerf the DML some. Currently it provides virtually unlimited douchebaggery a mbumive offense bonus and a most importantly a mbumive defense bonus. The result is that DML equipped trolls can nuke forums rapidly and grind forums nobody else can even reliably beat with bankrupting themselves. Yes the item is insanely expensive but can be purchased via dedicated grinding in a couple of weeks. After that the upkeep costs are mbumive but with min repair it’s easy to get past them.
3) Nerf Faux. Currently Faux requires camwhores spend 300+ smileprins, and emos 400+ smileprin (god help a re-re). In contrast a DML troll can beat it with roughly 40-50 Smileprin. Combined with the mbumive cred multiplier it means that DML trolls can grind faux x4 daily make a profit and climb the credit leaderboard at alarming rates. Honestly if faux’s rewards were cut by 40-50% it would reduce the outlandish rewards bumociated with grinding it and transform it back to a challenge forum.
Short of doing this I think it’s critical to introduce camwhore and emo equipment on par with the DML or else the power balance will continue to be felt. |

Just warn the person who’s planning on minrepairing that his junk is going to be randomly sold (or sold using a best-fit algorithm) as necessary until the cost of the repair is met or the person runs out of junk. He can just back out and sell junk manually if he doesn’t want that to happen. |

Could the broken equipment penalty be bumessed at the time the equipment brakes? So that when my computer becomes broken on the third thread of a forum, I am right then penalized 20% ego. I checked and the game seems to update the condition of an item during battle. |

The problem with that would be it allows streaking again. Repair to 1%, enter forum, get attacked, take 20% ego penalty. Unless perhaps you get further ego penalties for further attacks (perhaps too powerful though unless they’re reduced from 20% or capped somehow)
Another option would be to add another item stat – permanent damage. If you leave a battle with equipment at 0%, the item recieves 1 point of permanent damage. Once it reaches (say) 10 the item is lost. There could also be an effect on the items other stats, 9 points of permanent damage would cause the items to work at 10% of its original efficiency. |

My suggestion would be very simple: no longer allow partial repairs. |
