oh god finally
gonna do a season per post (feel free to comment on how awesome my dorfskillz are as I post)
From the journal of Crayon Cakebeard Regomet:
Summer has arrived. The strange farmer quickly claimed a craftdwarf’s shop, but luck was with us and he quickly started construction of an artifact.

While waiting for the artifact to be completed, I checked in on Veer. A dwarf like that is likely to get dangerous if you don’t keep tabs on him, after all.

He’d developed a grudge against one of the miners. I’m not sure when it started, or why. All I know is I’m glad I’m not that miner.
Further investigation into the feud stopped when a cry of joy rang out from the workshop area. The artifact was finished!

It was very… Meta. Perhaps some kind of wry commentary on dwarfish society. Or perhaps that farmer just loved toy axes far more than any dwarf should.
The miners were unoccupied, so I send them to carve out some big rooms. That had to be useful eventually, right?

They soon hit what appeared to be kryptonite. Soon, my Superman killing stonefall traps will be ready.

Also note my increase in skill. I knew becoming an engraver was a good idea!

We had two kobold thieves show up one after the other. I don’t think they managed to steal anything, so annoying, but at least we shouldn’t be getting more for a whi-

OH GODDAMMIT ALL
Afterwards, though, things quieted down. There wasn’t much else to do besides expand the noble’s quarters a bit. Not that any sane noble would come to this place.

We only have one hunter, from the last wave of migrants, but he’s been pretty successful so far. I wish I could make some iron bolts, though, bone and wood only get you so far.

The tons of statues we have in the stockpile, while pretty, are taking up a lot of space. I’ve decided to use one of the new large rooms as a statue garden.

Almost right away, another party is thrown. These dwarves sure love to party.

Meanwhile, my random cage traps bear fruit. We’ve caught about four camels, ready to be tamed and then bred or slaughtered. The hunter is bringing in plenty, so there’s no pressing need for the camels, but it’s nice to have a backup, and we can always sell a few to the caravan.

From the journal of Crayon Cakebeard Regomet:

Fall started off with yet another party. While I’m glad my comrades are filled with joy, I worry that they may be neglecting their duties too much. Ah, well. If they want to party, they can, as long as it doesn’t interfere with my secret project.

Just as work begins on the project, we get good news: Caravans!

We get another thief, probably attracted by the wagons, but it is quickly scared off. And, more good news: Veer has learned to estimate values!

...However, he’s not very good at it, and the merchants become offended when I offer them what I think is worth more than 1000 dorfbucks more than their goods are worth. They get angry at us and refuse to trade. Not. Good.

He was quickly driven off. Soon afterwards, a hush fell over the fort, and one of the jewelers started gibbering in a strange tongue.

We had a bit of a scare when we didn’t have the materials he needed at first…

A little exploratory mining fixed that problem, though.

With the gems found, the jeweler was soon able to finish the artifact.

Oooh. MINE MINE MINE I CALLED IT ****ES
And, obviously, I must have a position befitting my new furniture.

(I didn’t see that Veer had asked for sheriff before, so I don’t mind losing it. BUT THE COFFIN IS MIIIIIIIIIINE)

From the journal of Crayon Cakebeard Regomet:
Winter was fairly quiet. I could feel the end of my reign approaching quickly, and while I was glad to be relieved of duty, I felt I needed to make a bigger mark before I stepped down. Luckily, the secret project was near completion.

The arts were at an all time high, with skilled craftsdwarves and engravers creating many amazing works.

The noble’s quarters were getting pretty impressive, too.

Work started on the bridges and moat. This will be important for security in our future, although there’s no way I can get it all built before spring. The fortifications are all done, too.

Our dwarves are beginning to become sensitive to light, vomiting at the brightness. While this isn’t a huge deal yet, it could hurt out military dwarves in the future.

My secret project is completed right before spring starts. At last, a tomb worthy of me!

This is the state of the fortress at the end of my rule. I think I’ve done well: No one has died, at least, and we have plenty of of food and drink. Still, the poor sap I hand this place off to will have his hands full. |
