Submission LengthsI think certain categories should be limited in the number of characters/words they can contain, and some should also have a minimum number of acceptable characters/words. I believe I brought this up in another thread, but I think it deserves its own.
Here are a few reasons: 1) People sometimes submit the same thing for a thread title and a thread post/reply. This typically would not happen in a real forum, and would seem a bit strange. This results in titles being longer than they should be, and/or posts/replies being shorter than they should be.
2) There are few acceptable short replies/posts. Very rarely can a good reply or post be made from less than a single line or sentence, and in most cases they will not contain any randomizers, which will get them downvoted quite a bit anyway.
3) Long thread titles are too descriptive and/or long. The thread titles for this game are meant to be one-liners that catch the eye quickly and sound bizarre/funny. I’ve seen too many titles that are multiple lines long or are too complicated to bother reading.
4) Really long enemy names and thread titles can screw up the way the style displays. Long enemy names often lead to the by_whom column of the replies being grossly stretched out and making the thread look weird. Long thread titles can also make the styles display strangely.
I’m not saying that usernames should be 10 characters or less, or anything, but 45 is a bit much. Between 1 and 20 or 25 characters would be pretty generous. For titles, between 1 and 80 characters would probably be a decent amount. For posts/replies, there should be a minimum of about 16 characters or two words, and a maximum of something a lot higher, like 500-750 characters.
Randomly generated words should be valued at about 8 characters long.
What do you guys think?
P.S.:
In case you were wondering, seeing “The Glorious Duck of Correct Apostrophe Usage” posted as an enemy name (a winning one, at that) prompted me to bring up this suggestion again, and entries like:
“bumistance Required: My son is a @insult_shakespearean , the @insult_shakespearean thinks gymnophobia is a fear of dodgeball and that elephantitis is a rare form of lycanthropy. Should I simply give him the back of my hand or should I just wall the @insult_shakespearean up in an old coke furnace along with my dissident day-laborers”
being posted as THREAD TITLES.
Note that I am not commenting on the humor or validity of either entry based on content, but on length. I haven’t even read the thread title at the time of my posting this. In general, the posts/replies are of decent length, and the thread titles are the worst offenders. (view post) |

The officialized forumbuildr 2.0 beta WORD TYPE suggestion thread!Categories for separate {highbrow}/{high-sounding} and {lowbrow}/{common/vulgar} subdivisions of all of the categories.
Here are some examples: nouns – i.e. sports (lawn bowling, golf, fox hunting, cricket VS monster-truck racing, dogfighting, wrestling) adjectives – i.e. compliments (dashing VS hot) adverbs – i.e. totally (entirely, wholly VS sho’nuff) etc.
This is along the vein of insult_shakespearean vs insult_general.
Would have been GREAT for urbane dictionary, and may be useful for future forums. It doesn’t sound right when my posts for the current forum have words that no proper gentleman would even know, much less use, and posts for potentially low-brow or backwoods forums shouldn’t use fancy words. Card limit? There should be no limit on cards! Keep collecting them until the numbers become negative and/or you break your domination bracket!
If cards are going to be limited, scoops should be too. I also think there should be some other way to get cards aside from trading in scoops. Perhaps there could be some friendly domination cards? Or maybe bumhole should remove 10 scoops + a small percentage of the player’s total scoops, but also give them a domination card? I think the current system for gaining cards is a little boring compared to the system for gaining scoops.
It also sucks when you need to lose like 1-3 scoops for strategic reasons (but not 4 or more), or you’re that many short for a card.
One thing I’ve also noticed is that no matter what you do prior to the final hour or half-hour of domination, you’re pretty much going to lose if someone’s online right before the end of a round and you can’t be online, unless you have an incredible lead.
It would be nice if we could schedule domination cards or set trigger conditions for automatic usage of them. (view post) |

Forum Ideas (Ideas for entire forums)plk Posted:Nice to see automatic resubmissions are implemented, but this is the kind of thing I was afraid of when I suggested a buffer of some sort. Obviously if a forum idea survives long enough to be rated in the top 5 or 6 for the previous week, it’s not something that should be voted off within a few hours.
Maybe forum idea resets need to occur every month or every few weeks, that way it won’t look too much like a resubmission. Losing forum ideas could be docked the average positive forum rating or half the number of votes of the winning submission or something, so good ideas have a headstart. (view post) |

Forum Ideas (Ideas for entire forums)PIMPTASTIC-FROTH Posted:
And/or risk getting their idea copycatted/stolen and lose 1000 “sweet-bum” flezz.
I think that ideas over a certain threshold from week-to-week should automatically be resubmitted under the author’s name. These ideas should start with a baseline “fake-tastic” buffer score near the threshold which would not be increased until there have been that many upvotes on it. It’s a bit complicated, so let me explain:
Forum Idea A has +300 Forum Idea B has +200 Forum Idea C has +175 Forum Idea D has +100 Forum Idea E has +60
Week Ends. – Forum A Wins. – The threshold is 50% of the winning idea’s score. (+150 threshold) – Forum Ideas B and C are above the threshold, so they are resubmitted automatically (and without a deduction to the author’s remaining weekly submissions) and are given a sort of buffer score of 10% of the winning idea’s score (+30 buffer). – Forum Ideas D and E are below the threshold, so they are removed from public view, but are still kept under the author’s account for potential resubmittal at the expense of a weekly submission. This would prevent people having to type in the same forum idea week after week, like we know they will. Players should also have the option of removing any saved forum ideas.
When the new week starts, players will see the old forum ideas that were automatically resubmitted as available for voting on. – Since there’s a +30 buffer for B and C, players must downvote the idea 35 times without a single upvote to have it removed from the list. However, 30 people must upvote the item before it can gain any points. When the 31st person upvotes the item, it would gain its first point, but until that point it will only show the effect of the downvotes. – If forum B receives 25 downvotes, the item will be at +5. It must still receive 30 upvotes before anything can be added back into its score. At 31 upvotes, the item will show a score of +6. – If forum B receives 34 downvotes and 30 upvotes, its score will be -4. The next upvote will bring it to -3 bumuming no more downvotes prior. The next downvote will bring it to -5 and remove it from the list. – If forum B receives 30 downvotes and 34 upvotes, its score will be 4, and the next vote either way will effect the score as normal.
This will basically allow an item to remain on the list for longer than the typical downvote sprawl of 5 downvotes, but not give the item an unfair advantage over other submitted forum ideas once the number of votes pbumes the buffer either way.
The buffer should be noted with any surviving ideas in the Voted By Score page. (view post) |

How we plan to improve ForumBuildr!Funcdizzi Posted: It’s going to happen in episode 2. Submitting enemy names is useless now? There should be no penalty in buildr score for submitting enemies, or something like that.
Perhaps the penalty should be lessened for certain categories, and the benefits for the others be raised. (view post) |

Damn! Look at the sisterhood go!I’m not saying every vanilla raid is a Camwhore exclusive thing. How stupid do you think I am?
I’m saying that what you did – this nearly 400-scoop raid, is, at this point, a Camwhore exclusive thing, since the only clan so far able to come close to that is of course, yours, and the only clbum allowed to join it is Camwhores.
How am I, as an Emo, to compete with that? How would a Troll compete with that? Even the closest competing guild doesn’t appear able to mount an opposition.
EDITL Added bonus – since Camwhores are the best clbum – even if we were to get as many players (and possibly more) than your guild, it would be more difficult to match your Vanilla Scoop output, especially since you’ve recruited most (if not all) of the level 10 Camwhores. (view post) |

It’s a Klan-exclusive thing by the nature of it all, and your Klan is Camwhore-exclusive, so yes, it is a Camwhore-exclusive thing.
Domination needs to be split up as Klan-Vs-Klan and player-vs-player. You shouldn’t be able to get scoops for something someone else did in PVP. (view post) |

Damn! Look at the sisterhood go!Nerf Klanwhores.
I mean Camwhores.
The wiki says the Emo used to be the best clbum, and now the Camwhore is. I say we give the Troll a turn – you’ve had your 15 minutes of exploiting.
EDIT: I’d like to see what the logs look like for this thing you did. (view post) |
