Random Rollovers: What do you think?I think the biggest deal is deliveries. Deliveries is what makes me login in the mornings, not forum visits.
I would recommend that you randomize deliveries somewhat.
Maybe you could provide an incentive to players to log in at certain times rather than force them to do it. That’d be the ideal way for everyone. (view post) |

Forum StylesID and clbum are definitely the easiest to edit. Note that the space inside of a clbum=’’ tag denotes two different clbumes, for example: clbum=’even thread_list_item’ means the tag is both “even” and a “thread_list_item”.
You can also change the appearance of HTML elements.
In the CSS code, you denote an id with a prefixed ”#”, so for the forum ID, use ”#forum”. For clbumes, denote them with a ”.”, so for the even clbum, use ”.even”. For HTML tags, don’t put anything in front of them. (view post) |

How we plan to improve ForumBuildr!handofg0d Posted: I posted a suggestion like this earlier. But sometimes transparencies aren’t enough – if your logo has black text, even with (or especially with) transparencies, it is going to look horrible on a dark background. Since you don’t know ahead of time which logo is going to win, it’s not really possible to make a style for a specific logo.

Forum StylesHere’s an example of the DHTML of the forum. You should be able to figure things out by looking at it.
I’d post an example stylesheet … but … There’s a lot of different tags and such you can use to do complicated things – if I posted all of that I’d be giving away my secretz. :0p

How we plan to improve ForumBuildr!There needs to be a way to show which items were submitted by the same user without giving away the user’s name. If I see something wrong/iffy in one of my submissions and fix it and resubmit, it sometimes gets downvoted because people think I was stealing from the original submitter (but they don’t know it was me).
Normally, the advice would be to double-check submissions before pressing the bumon, but sometimes things like the logo or style will change and completely throw off the other. Example: If a logo was submitted with transparency and black text, and the winning style becomes one with a dark background, the logo now looks horrible with the style and could start to get downvoted, when all it needed was a slight touchup. This could happen with a logo changing and making the style look bad as well (i.e. if the matte edges of a transparency show up on the background of the style. It’s quite possible that near the end of the voting, THE BEST LOGO EVER is submitted and gets quickly upvoted to the top of the list – but looks HORRIBLE with the currently winning style – and no new style is uploaded or upvoted high enough to change the top winner. I guess in this case you could personally step in and rect[al]ify the s[h]ituation, but how would you do that fairly?
One solution is to upload multiple versions of a logo/style, but this takes up submission points. I could see why an edit bumon could cause problems – people could make a really awesome logo or style that gets uploaded and is then changed at the last minute to something the voters might not like.
Once again I submit that the option of including multiple color schemes with a logo/style would be nice – at least the option of providing a light/dark version of a style which, if selected, would choose the appropriate light/dark version of the winning logo or vice/versa to go with it.
EDIT: Also, maybe on the problem of submitting a fixed version it should be possible to remove an entry you’ve submitted. (view post) |

Submission topics per week -- too much or too little?Eh. I think submissions should depend on which category you’re submitting for. Ideas and Logos should take 4 submission points, Designs 3, Posts/Titles 2, and Enemies 1. You should start with around 18 points.
I also think that the Flezz bonuses should be modified to reflect the increased difficulty in getting a winning submission – due to a number of factors, such as the restrictions to submissions, the increased voter (and downvoter) population. How many winning enemies are selected? 20 enemies being selected out of 500 is pretty steep for only a 10 Flezz bonus.
I also think Titles should have a maximum character limit and posts/replies should have a minimum character limit. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen the same title submitted as posts or vice/versa, and titles so long they could have been a post or two.
EDIT: Either that or submission numbers need to be dynamic during the week – if you get an item to a score of 30+ votes you should be able to submit another one for free during the same week. (view post) |

It would be nice if the buildr score corresponded better with how many of each you could submit … i.e. start with a buildr score of 1 and you can submit 3 titles/posts/replies/enemies and 1 logo/style/idea per week. When you hit a buildr score of 2 you could submit twice as much, or something like that. Even with a simplification like this, the idea is very complicated. (view post) |

How we plan to improve ForumBuildr!Perhaps there should be some sort of round setup.
Log in to see images!For the first 3-4 days, new ideas can be submitted. It would mainly function the way it does now, except instead of showing the higher-voted threads first, it would show threads with fewer total votes (up or down) first. After the first few days it seems like most of the submissions are either duplicates or not as good, and I doubt very many of them would ever make it to the final selected ideas.
Log in to see images!After that, all ideas with less than a certain calculated threshold (of the up/down vote score, not total votes – and it would be calculated based on standard deviations from the max or what-have-you) disappear, and the voting starts over on the remaining threads/styles. Often times I find myself upvoting something I later see as inferior to an idea that hadn’t been submitted yet, and I wish I could have downvoted it – this two-phase voting system would let people view most or all of the items through once before making a final decision.
Log in to see images!I think for this second phase of voting, it would be nice to have a bigger range available to vote on (1-5, I think someone suggested something like this) so you could order them better from your most to least favorites. You should be able to change your vote after you’ve already voted, and the rating should not be shown at all during the second phase. Once again, I think sorting items by total votes would be the best approach, though towards the last 2 days it would be better to switch it to the higher rated items showing first so ties could be broken.
Log in to see images!With a submissions deadline like this, I think it would give everyone the opportunity to vote on all the potential items, as the number of items you haven’t voted on yet would only go down after the first phase cutoff.
