Proposed New Rule | |||||||

Signed, unless there’s a way to make a separate, 18+, NSFW board and just limit pr0n to that. ForumWarz is more adult-oriented in the first place, but there are plenty of players under 18 who don’t completely suck, and I’d hate to see them get run off.
Related: if we WERE to ban people who were under 18, already on the site, and had BP on their account, that could be a liability, too.

Good compromise.

I was surprised about the content of this site and the fact that there isn’t an age requirement. The words and content of the game can be just as bad as anything on Flamebate. You dont have to have visuals for something to be “Adult Content” I bet if some parents saw what was on here, they would be pretty angry about it.
So far most of this discussion is going towards the pics that are posted, but it isn’t always just pictures that the law would consider. that is just what gets the most attention. abitdark edited this message on 01/14/2009 2:16PM |

Exactly. Think about the links posted in IDC and INCIT. Think about the PG-13 material the game’s made of (especially camwhore attacks). etc. |

Well, I suppose some of the game’s content could be offensive… but then again, there’s the agreement that you aren’t easily offended that’s made upon signing up. That should cover that, or so I think. Not opposing making Flamebait a 18+ though.
... Perhaps a 13+ agreement to play the game would be alright, IMO. |

If you think about it, there is also the whole thing going on with Consol game ratings due to violence and language. I did hear a little thing from “The_****” today after finishing part of the game that isn’t really something that could be considered suitible for under 18
(I was surprised there was sound to the game since I dont have speakers at work Log in to see images! ) abitdark edited this message on 01/14/2009 2:22PM |

Offensive is not the issue at hand here. Illegal is.

The content doesn’t have to be offensive for it to be inapropriate, the underage person may have an open mind about things (I know I did at that age and still do) but the parents or legal persons wont. |

Exactly. Really, “illegal” is only potentially in Flamebate. I still think Bonkenhi’s suggestion about limited Flamebate to 18+ and leaving the rest alone is the right answer. |

This game would definitely have a Mature rating, but this is the internet. You have to at least cover yourself. No one under 18 is going to say, “Oh no! I’d better not play this!” and skip off to disney.com, so it’s not like you’re going to lose any revenue. |

We all agreed when we signed up that we were not easily offended. When I say adult material, I am referring to to constant sexual undertones in the main storyline. There are numerous reference to male sodomy and at one point after completing a mission you get an audio tubmail from a npc lesbian who is engaged in sex. At any given point in incit, idc or in the active threads in forumwarz you are going to see objectionable material.
This is not about punishing minors. There are certain privileges that come with the age of majority and one of those is the access to adult material. With all of the language and dark humor references this site is far from pg-13. Most Stalk conversations use repeated profanity. I am not opposed to this content in anyway, in fact I find it to be quite hilarious, I do not however support it being made available to children, and if you are under 18 you are a child, no matter how intelligent or mature you may act.
There are plenty of things that need to be considered on this issue, and ultimately it is a decision for the CZ team. However, it is only a matter of time before this issue becomes a serious problem. |

Appropriate is in the eye of the beholder. Being inappropriate won’t get ForumWarz shut down, but being illegal could.
The goal’s to SAVE the site, not CHANGE the site. The less change comes from a fix, the better. CZ’s made something beautiful here. |

Its because Legally a person under the age of 18 is not able to make the decision about weather something is appropriate or not. |

Well, blocking the game off entirely because of that is something I don’t like… perhaps have the sTalk and IDC convos filtered and making a different version if it’s a serious issue? |

And klan pages. And avatars. And tubmail. And the wiki. And potentially the links people post in IDC and INCIT chat. And in states where exposing children to camwhore attacks is considered illegal.
Restricting to Flamebate does not solve the problem. If there is one. |

Not as much as you’d think, honestly. I mean, do you see any disclaimer on ED?
Better safe than sorry though, I guess.
EDIT: Unless there’s a difference that is slipping my mind. I don’t remember the ED discussion about it. Johnny Mac edited this message on 01/14/2009 2:32PM |

Agreed, but as I said (just after you posted) Legally it isn’t the persons choice. The parents or Guardians still have every right to go after FW. a fail safe would be best for the site, and as it was pointed out they wont loose any revenue. but they would loose more if they got hit legally |

Just change the text to “I am over 18 and not easily offended.” How hard is that? You then have some legal leverage and the 15 yo’s still click through while chuckling to themselves how clever they are for breakin’ the law. |
