Now see, how are you defining good? They’re third album was pretty unimpressive, but Infiltrate-Destroy-Rebuild and Carver City are very well written, and performed admirably.
Are you basing them “not being any good” on hearing a few casual singles, or have you actually listened through one of their (better) albums three, four, etc. times? Like I wrote, you can’t broaden your taste or improve your listening habits if your not challenging yourself with stuff you might not like right away.
One good example for me is Lady Gaga. I wasn’t a fan of her at first, until I listened through The Fame a few times, watched several of her interviews, and realized she’s artistically very intelligent, and a very talented singer. She can sound very similar to acts like Gwen Stefani, Alanis Morrisette, or Cher, while retaining a very distinctive and identifiable voice all her own…but picking up on something like that takes more than a few listens.
