We’ll take Homophobes as an example, Homophobes are majorly made up of men who were either

A)Molested as a child/teen by a male authority member.

B)Have had thoughts about homosexual relations and were taught that is is “ungodly”.

In both these cases these men are uncomfortable with their sexuality and so they project their mixed feelings onto the gay community to cope with their own experiences.
