The IRS officially started accepting returns on January 15, 2010 for the 2009 tax year. W-2s from your employer should have been sent by January 31, 2010 and 1099s from other sources of income should be sent by February 15, 2010. Every U.S. citizen who made more than $9,350 is required to file, but even if you made less it’s still a good idea to file if you had any wages during the year because you’re probably due a refund. What most people don’t realize is that anyone with an adjusted gross income of less than $57,000 is eligible to have their taxes filed for free. Yes, totally free. Don’t pay H&R Block or someone $75 to $300 or more. Just file for free at IRS Free File. |
