Also in Anchorage its not as cold as everyone thinks. It rains much more than it snows during the non-winter months. I think due to some ocean current or something that keeps the climate milder than the interior. I was in Anchorage for a couple weeks during August/September 2000 and it was about 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit. I may not notice as much because I’m from Michigan and no part of Alaska I stayed in really felt blisteringly cold.
Only other thing I can think of is that there are a million active volcanoes nearby to be wary of, and earthquakes are common off the coast. |
