Proof of this can be found in The Blackest Night storyline. When the Black Lanterns attempted to use Batman’s empty corpse to force an emotional reaction from the other DC heroes they were unable to keep his corpse animated, while they had no problem maintaining the corpses of the other, legitimately dead, heroes such as John Jones, Hawkman and Hawkgirl, Ted Kord, Kal-L, etc.

Yet, they DID manage to animate it, and WITH it(and his skull) they have been making all of the black rings.
