Against was 1998. There is nothing even remotely resembling blast beats on Chaos AD or Roots which is when he developed the tribal style with multiple forms of percussion. To say he’s a ****ty drummer because he used blast beats on a song or two on a ****ty generic Sepultura album is asinine. In fact I’d say the use of them, sporadic as it is, shows his versatility.

I saw two live shows in the Chaos/Roots era and he was phenomenal, which was really when I started noticing the precision and skill involved in his playing. Labeling him a blast-beat maniac is patently false and quite ignorant.
