it makes me think of Zelda: Ocarina of time. there’s the running man who you can challenge to a race. He ALWAYS beats you by one second. It’s part of the game that he wins no matter what. But you still race him, improving your time, searching the world for information on the guy or tricks for speed or some item that might help.

Difficult yes, impossible? Not integral, at least not one’s that aren’t imposed yourself. Having an impossible timed challenge will ruin your streak, hurt your Leaderboard standing and people will try because they think that it should be possible. Of course after a while you realize you can’t do it and go for the non-timed ones. With the time based ones, so many factors are out of your hands (Server speed, thread count, thread health) that it may be impossible regardless of what time you set some of the time.

Having difficult ones is required to maintain interest, but saying that impossible ones are integral I’d think is going a little far. Of course nobody MUST do the timed ones for any reason so as long as that’s always an option there’s not too much to complain about.
