Pop is a ridiculous term. It’s simply a cutsey derivation from the sound that the cork used to make when it was pulled out of the bottle. Which is completely and horrendously out-dated. When was the last time your bottle drink had a cork in it?

Soda actually means something, and has since the very beginning (since it predates the term ‘pop’ by at least a decade) since it’s actually a reference to sodium bicarbonate, which is what creates the ‘fizz’. It’s a reference to the actual ingredients.
