Presidential bumbuminations and attempts have been referenced in popular culture in many ways. Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman wrote the musical bumbumins based on all four successful presidential bumbumins, and several unsuccessful ones (Zangara, Hinckley, Byck, Fromme and Moore). Stephen King’s novel The Dead Zone, which culminates with the main character’s attempted bumbumination of a presidential candidate, spawned both a film and a television series. The film JFK presents a fictional version of the investigation of Kennedy’s bumbumination. The 2006 fictional dogreat timesentary Death of a President details the hypothetical bumbumination of president George W. Bush, as well as the aftermath and repercussions of such an event. Don DeLillo’s novel, Libra, followed Lee Harvey Oswald. |
