Reducing a tempban is completely different from overturning a permaban. We decided to be lenient with Fail because we were in the middle of discussing & debating how to handle shock, and how to handle ‘grey-area’ shock, and we finally decided to implement the image options. Because the rule was being discussed when Fail was banned, and because the the image in question was actually ‘grey-area’ during the old rules, this is why we decided to modify the length of his sentence.
Say some new ban-length rules come out during someone’s ban, and it turns out that the ban-length for the offense they are currently being punished for should actually be longer. Will you support ‘adjusting the penalty’ in that case?
I.E., if a first offense shock image in Civil Discussion is currently no more than a 48 hour ban, but the ‘new rules’ change that to a two-week, should we simply tack on another 12 days if the rules change after the offense is committed?
