I would say the storyline was mbumively innovative for the FF7 series as well, as well as the music, graphics, etc. previously mentioned.
Innovative? the Empire Shinra is has taken over the world, abusing natural resources , and is being an utter jerkbum, the heroes decide to take them out, and while they are doing so, the Empire’s Shinra’s ace, Kefka Sephiroth, decides to become a god, so the players decide to stop him, FF7 stops when Shepiroth is killed, just before he becomes a god, while 6 goes on to include Kefka destroying the world after he becomes god and them the characters have to travel in another world and kill him. Very innovative, the cut off the end of 6, put in different characters and made a few changes, and called the story FF7.
