I’m unsure if it’s been suggested already, but some kind of confirmation box when choosing your avatar initially would be nice. When choosing mine, I pretty much reflex-clicked on the first one that caught my eye and didn’t get to look at the rest.

Maybe a “Choose this avatar? yes/no” box, or even a method of highlighting the avatar on the single click, then having to click done or next to finish choosing it.
