Retiring a leaderboard just because nobody else is going to ever get on it, and thus are denied precious peen is pretty poor reasoning. People should want to be on leaderboards not to increase some arbitary number, but so they can stand up, pound their chests and otherwise express their manly virtue for being better than most people at something.

Better fixes would include things like:

Adding peens not just for “top of the leaderboard” but for “top 5” or “top 10” places, the higher you place, the more peen you get.

Leaving things the way they are, but introducing milestone peens as well.
