I understand the conversation has already progressed past some of these but figured I’d throw in my 2Log in to see images! anyway.

Seriously, a general faq and a wiki don’t go very far beyond answering just that: general questions.

I have yet to find a question I’ve had about the game that the Wiki didn’t answer.

People every single day who are confused about something end up coming into IDC and asking other players for help, where invariably the person gets trolled.

Yeh, they’re a newfabulous person, yeh, it’s fun to make fun of them, I get it, whatever. But the fact is that some people aren’t seasoned internet users and being randomly insulted puts them off. I wonder how many players have just stopped playing after innocent requests for an answer get met with “YOU ARE A SMELLY fine upstanding member of society.”

The entire site follows the general trend of being very vulgar and very offensive. If you can’t take the words of abuse from other members now you probably won’t be able to later, this site isn’t geared toward your demographic.

Not only that though, basically every thread I’ve seen in the games forum has been answered in a mature (in the good sense) and decent way (though many were answered by Wylin.) I’ve seen no thread where the answer was simply an insult thrown at the original poster.

Not being able to make general answer threads is absolutely very special. I’m not sure when “more help” became inferior to “less help,” but forcing someone to slog through an FAQ when they just want a single, simple answer just wastes time, and forces them to attempt to get an answer in locations where they’ll just get trolled

Again, I haven’t seen much trolling when someone asks a question. The wiki answers pretty much all questions and is organized well. Any general answers thread would force someone to slog through a ton more information to find their answers. The reason being that a thread is limited in how well it can be organized; the wiki doesn’t have signatures, duplicate questions, multiple answers, or mini-discussions.

Also if your argument is that the community can’t answer people’s (or as you refer to them, newfabulous persons) questions why would this change anything. As is the games forum is basically a big place to ask questions, condensing it all into one thread wouldn’t help at all.

Game Discussion is meant for discussing the game. Guess what asking questions about the game involves?

Now go ahead and troll me for giving a ****. Joke’s on you, because the only thing I really don’t give a **** about are the trolls.

People do ask questions in that forum, which is why it works as is. We don’t need a big thread for it.

I’m honestly not sure if this is a troll itself so far.

Since when is newfabulous person and similar terms remotely banworthy? I was never under the impression the term was viewed as anything more than an affectionate nickname.

Considering I’ve never even been banned before, I think a ban would be completely out of the question.

Affectionate nickname would be something like “honeybear” or “sweetie.” Something you might say to a friend, relative, or (dare I say it?) spouse. Calling someone a newfabulous person is a demeaning term, such as calling someone maggot. I find it somewhat ironic that you talk (type whatever) as if you’re acting on behalf of the new people to the forum when in actuality you’re just perpetrating the hate on people who are new to the community.

The biggest problem with an FAQ thread is that it eventually ends up being a collection of random questions THAT CANNOT BE INDEXED IN ANY WAY.

Imagine having to dig through 10 pages of questions just to find the answer you were looking for, wouldn’t that be even more annoying?

And quite honestly the Wiki is very comprehensive, and with the recent creation of the Knowledge Base, you’d have to try REALLY hard to not be able to find an answer to your question (unless it’s something super obscure, in which case the user is probably better off starting his/her own thread about it anyway).

So in essence, FAQ threads are obsolete, especially since the Knowledge Base was created pretty much for the exact same purpose.

I completely agree.
