Here, have a horror story I wrote:
The Eyes. They’re everywhere.
In that cafe? They’re watching. They’re watching the clients drink their coffee, read their newspapers, eat their scones. They’re watching.
Down that alleyway? They’re watching. They’re watching that couple ****, that homeless man beg, that thug mug somebody.
Even in your own house? Yes, they’re watching. Yes, they’re watching you sleep, watching you ****, watching you shower, watching you ****, watching you eat. They’re watching.
Why do they watch? I don’t know. Who put them there? I don’t know that either. I would say the government, but the problem is is that there is never any action taken on what they watch. No criminals ever arrested for a crime. No stoplights put in places where there’s lots of traffic. They just… Watch. Not to mention they watch the government, as well.
No one dares talk about them, though. It’s as if to discuss them would be to admit their presence, to admit that not a single one of us ever has a moment of complete privacy. To discuss them would be to eliminate the tiny peace of mind we have left, after living with these cameras our entire lives.
Some have tried to do things about the cameras. The problem is is that no one knows exactly WHERE the cameras are… We just know that they ARE there… We don’t see them, don’t hear them, we just… Feel them. We feel the eyes on our backs at all times. We know they’re there. We don’t know how, but we know.
Some have tried hiding from the cameras, using every material they could think of to hide heat signatures, absorb light, anything which might keep any kind of camera from seeing them. But no matter what, we all still feel the cameras. We all still know they’re watching us, no matter what we try.
No one is exactly certain when the cameras appeared. It’s almost as if one day we just woke up and knew our every action was being watched, recorded. There are no records about the cameras, since no one dares talk about them, so far all we know they could’ve been here since before we were born. But it doesn’t matter when they appeared, really. All that matters is that they’re still here, still watching us, without any reason any of us can discern.
And, from what anyone can tell, they’re going to keep watching us. |
