This. Except when you get the level 5 skill, “Life after Death” you can hang tight at 0 ego for nine turns (I think it’s 9 anyway). Just make sure you have a decent heal item set aside so you don’t get bumped right back down into 0.

Actually, Life After Death heals you for about 20-30 after you “die” then goes away. It’s good to have up for emergencies, but not something to rely on.
